As a tutor, firstly, I would like my students to understand that making mistakes is normal and part of the learning process. Making mistakes helps them understand the subject material in greater depth. Secondly, I would like to make learning a fun and easy experience for students and give them the tools to work through seemingly challenging tasks…

As a tutor, the most important thing is to improve the student marks and to be interested and make them enjoy in the subjects they study. Additionally a tutor has to assist and encourage the student in learning processes and help them finish homework. Lastly, explaining the sums instead of learning theories by heart is also a challenging…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to spark an interest in the subject which can lead to the students learning new things about the subject on their own. In order to establish a good relationship, the tutor must be an energetic person, someone with a lot of enthusiasm with respect to human interactions. This interest will certainly have a positive impact on a child discouraged by the school and his or her bad grades. Through his or her good mood and motivation, the tutor will be a model for…

Self-belief is one of the important traits that a tutor can generate for their students. The ability to understand and apply concepts logically can only be generated if a tutor is able to generate interest in that particular subject. Generating curiosity, self-belief, and giving a platform to children to be able to express his concerns would be my…

Encouragement. When I was a calculus tutor, I noticed how discouraged students could get. It is my job to help them understand as well as be a kind voice telling them that they can do it. I truly believe you can do anything you put your mind to and I try to instill that in my students. I am a very goal oriented tutor. I ask my students what it is…

Instill Confidence. To like a particular subject or not is matter of interest of the student BUT as a tutor I would like to instill confidence that it is their choice to pursue this further or not. I believe a tutor can offer a student so much more that just knowledge; the encouragement of a tutor can unlock a student’s potential and lead them towards consistent success. Tutoring sessions can make a student feel heard and understood which is so important in a student’s journey through self discovery in their schooling years. As a tutor,…

Inside MarsfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Lea focused on algebraic techniques, working through expansion and factorisation questions, as well as discussing accuracy and limits of accuracy using examples from homework.

In Year 10, Jack tackled trigonometric identities and proof-based questions to strengthen understanding ahead of assessments.

For Year 11, Sienna concentrated on solving combinations and permutations problems by breaking down multi-step scenarios, ensuring she could apply these skills to new contexts.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, one student "didn't do homework," which meant new methods in inequalities were not reinforced outside of lessons—gaps showed up when tackling unfamiliar problems.

In Year 10 trigonometry, a reluctance to ask questions led to guessing answers instead of clarifying confusion; as noted, "she needs to be more active in asking questions."

Meanwhile, a senior student repeatedly avoided writing calculation steps in vector proofs, leading to sign errors and lost marks.

Another struggled with exam integration tasks due to careless corrections, erasing rather than confronting mistakes—a habit that cost marks under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Marsfield tutor noted that a Year 11 student recently moved from completing almost all homework correctly, showing she now checks her understanding and attempts problems even when unsure.

In a senior session, another high school student improved her correction rate on HSC-style papers—she now revisits mistakes independently and answers more quickly than before.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who previously hesitated to share ideas is now volunteering her thinking aloud during lessons, making visible steps toward greater classroom participation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Epping Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Anthony's Catholic Primary School.
