As a biology tutor's job is to be supplementary to a students learning, the most vital role a tutor can fulfill is to be sympathetic and understanding to a student's situation, and to be adaptive in the way they assist the student in order to maximise their potential. My communication skills allow me to help students understand complex topics and…

I think one of the most important things a biology tutor can do is build a student’s confidence. It’s not just about helping them get the right answer, but helping them believe they’re capable of getting there on their own. A tutor should also create a supportive environment where the student feels safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and…

By tailoring their teaching methods, explaining complex topics, and fostering a supportive environment,…

Be considerate, patient, understanding, and non-judgemental. It can be very hard to accept help in the first place, and being made to feel like you're failing or a burden is only going to make that harder. I work to understand how their mind works so I can explain in a way they will best understand. I am also very patient, particularly with those…

Tutors should not be someone that a student can rely on to complete homework or assessments for them. The most important thing a biology tutor can do for their student is to help them help themselves through assistance and guidance, teaching them the know how of becoming an independent learner so that the student is able to achieve at their own…

Inside Marshall MountTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Thomas focused on multiplication and division strategies, working through problems to build speed and accuracy.

In Year 10, Olivia explored bivariate data by interpreting scatter plots and using calculators to find correlation coefficients.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Liam tackled trigonometry, solving problems involving angles of elevation and depression with the help of drawn diagrams.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, skipping written steps in financial and network problems led to confusion when justifying answers—one tutor noted, "Setting out working. New line for different calculation."

For a Year 8 student, over-reliance on calculators meant formulas weren't memorised, making it hard to tackle algebra or rearrange equations without prompts.

In Year 4, frustration with basic multiplication caused one child to guess instead of reasoning through; she often forgot previously learned facts and avoided reading questions aloud as requested.

Meanwhile, a senior student tackling HSC revision left textbook homework incomplete, missing chances for feedback before assessments.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Marshall Mount noticed that Joel, a Year 10 student, previously struggled to decide which trigonometric ratio to use but can now select the right formula independently. In another session, Chelsea (Year 11) used to need step-by-step guidance with index laws but was able this week to apply them confidently without prompting across multiplication, division, and brackets.

For Ariana in Year 3, maths used to feel daunting, especially when starting division; however, she now initiates practice herself and has begun solving division questions on her own during lessons.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Albion Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Calderwood Christian School.
