I think tutors need to make/ help students feel comfortable and less stressful with their studies in school. Talking to the students and identify their strengths and weaknesses, and hence support them to improve and reach their fullest potential. I always try to adapt my teaching to the students. I never want to be fixed with one way of teaching…

The most important thing a tutor can do is not to flaunt their own brainpower like a flashy superhero cape. Instead, it’s about helping students discover their own hidden superpowers and showing them how to wield these talents for their own success. Think of it like being a treasure map that leads them to their own buried gems—helping them…

I think that a tutor should not limit themselves to just subject knowledge. They should research more on effective teaching methods and strategies that might help them connect to their students more. They should develop practices that make a student's life easier and should understand the individual needs of the students. Often tutors have to…

I think the most important thing is making the student feel comfortable asking questions. A tutor should focus on understanding where the student is getting stuck and help them build confidence, not just give answers. I'm patient and I don't rush students. If something doesn't click the first time, I'm happy to explain it again in a different way.…

As a tutor, it is very important that the teacher becomes an inspiration to the student. The passion with which the tutor teaches the student matters a lot and this also influences the students influence on the subject. When a tutor teaches the student with passion, the student is definitely going to like the subject and learn with full passion as…

Like I said, patience and comfortable environment created between the tutor and the student. Rest all can be taken care of by referring to the respective books and study materials. Interactive studies make students remember and understand topics really well. If a tutor can help the student to enjoy the subjects, then it becomes an activity which…

Always know what students need and what's their priority. This means a tutor need to show respect to students. They need to know very well about the students and are wise and knowledgable enough to give good advice and make sure students love listening to the advice. I love to solve questions. Give the student confidence. Confidence either to persist with the hard work till they hit a breakthrough or the confidence to thing around the problems. There are a lot of students who don't lack in talent and just a couple little things are holding them back. Solving those can really help them grow. I am able to seperate a topic into byte sized…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to inspire confidence, make learning enjoyable, and nurture independent thinking. In my opinion, the most important responsibility of a tutor is not to teach specific knowledge or skills but to incite the confidence and curiosity for knowledge in students. Ultimately, a successful tutor is the one who can help students out of their bottlenecks, assists them in studying, and finally equips them with the skills and mindsets for…

The most important goal for a tutor is to spark students' interest in the subject. Tutoring is not only about assisting with a student's grade. Different parameters that determine WHAT is important to a student vary largely depending on the teacher, student’s needs and the learning content. Inside Melrose ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ella focused on number facts to 20 and practiced subtraction with exchanging, as well as using concrete materials for 5x tables.

In Year 11, Lily worked through acid-base reactions—including Brønsted–Lowry theory, titrations, and buffer solutions—and developed her understanding of equilibrium concepts like Le Chatelier's Principle and solubility rules by interpreting graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Alex tackled differential calculus skills such as finding derivatives of logarithmic and trigonometric functions and applied these to kinematics problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 Chemistry student experienced confusion during a calculation question; as one tutor noted, "we plan on figuring out where we went wrong with the calculation side of things so we can cover it completely in the next session." This moment highlighted that checking working and clarifying errors is still an area to strengthen before assessments.

In Year 4 Maths, writing sometimes became messy—keeping letters on the line was inconsistent, which made reviewing answers harder.

A Year 5 student showed hesitation using erasers often, aiming for perfect work and hiding mistakes instead of learning from them.

Recent Achievements

A Melrose Park tutor saw Lu-Anne, a senior high school student, move from needing step-by-step help with chemical calculations to independently completing complex questions using multiple formulas—a big leap in self-sufficiency compared to earlier sessions.

Another high school student recently boosted her test scores from 44% to 65% and now actively asks questions and applies feedback, where she previously hesitated to participate or explain her reasoning out loud.

In a Year 4 session, one student who used to avoid word problems now selects key information on her own and asks for extra practice after finishing the assigned work.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Park Holme Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart College - Champagnat Campus.
