I really fell that a tutor should be a friend and not like a teacher so that student can easily approach them with their silly doubt without any fear and clear their concept thoroughly. I love to be with children and sometimes be like them and enjoy the life in a simple manner. This really makes a great bond between me and my students due to which…

According to me two most important principles in a tutor are patience and trust. Building trust makes the student feel comfortable enough to ask questions, make mistakes. Having patience also goes a long way in building that trust, so that the student can actually enjoy the learning process. I believe I can bring value to the role through my…

The most important role of a tutor is to transform a student’s mindset. Inside Merrylands WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Marcus focused on multiplying and dividing fractions, as well as converting fractions to decimals using step-by-step examples.

Year 7 student Sarah practiced adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators and revised chance concepts through real-world scenarios.

For Year 10, David worked on essay structure and building background knowledge about set texts by breaking down prompts and discussing planning techniques.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 English, a student hesitated to use formal language in essays and struggled with planning, resulting in "structure issues within the essay" as noted by a tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student tackling comprehension questions often rushed through texts without patience, leading to misinterpretation and missed details.

In Year 5 mathematics, another student avoided writing out working for multiplication algorithms—preferring mental calculation—which led to repeated mistakes that were hard to trace.

When spelling was assessed in Year 7, uncertainty around new words meant progress stalled until the "look, cover, write, check" method was actively used.

Recent Achievements

One Merrylands West tutor noticed a Year 10 student, who previously rushed through maths problems, now methodically checking each step in long division—showing much more patience than before.

Another high school student had been hesitant to ask for help with essay structure, but this session worked bit by bit through each section, openly discussing where she felt stuck and using feedback to clarify her ideas.

A younger student mastered both the 9x and 11x tables after earlier struggles and started confidently breaking down worded multiplication problems into smaller steps without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greystanes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cerdon College.
