Although my goal is to see them be at the top of their class, it is more important to see improvements in their tutor lessons and use the knowledge I give them at school to refine their skills I am very easy going and I have a lot of patience. So I am good with kids that are struggling to understand. I use the 4 predominant learning styles:…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build trust, encourage curiosity, and help students develop strong learning habits. A tutor should help students become independent thinkers and feel confident in their abilities. I also like to recognise and reward students for their achievements, as this motivates them to keep improving…

The most important things for a tutor to do is to help a student strengthen their own ability to learn independantly. It is far more important that a student understands the learning process and what works best for them rather than simply memorise a single topic. Having transferable skills as a student and being able to apply their knowledge to…

I believe a tutor should be a role model. Where they should embody not only the study skills they teach but also be honest, patient and a motivator, all whilst being professional. Through this a student can grow both academically and as a person allowing them to reap the rewards more deeply. A tutors role is to listen and provide their clients…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to build a student’s confidence while helping them truly understand the material, rather than simply memorising it. A good tutor should be patient, listen to the student’s needs, adapt their teaching style, and encourage independent thinking. I also think it’s important to create a positive…

As mentioned above, it is extremely important for tutors to enjoy the content they are teaching. These attitudes are projected onto the willingness of students to engage with the subject. In addition to this, it is important for tutors to create and maintain relationships with their students that emulate trust and belief in their abilities. A…

A tutor can be a difference between a student blindly navigating the pressures of school and empowering students with the skills necessary to succeed, as well as enjoying the learning experience. A tutor must be able to gain the trust of the students to allow them to feel comfortable enough for the learning to commence. An intimidating environment is an ineffective one for teaching. I focus my attention mainly to the weak areas and skills that the student require improvement in. By doing so, I successfully tutor the student to overcome any…

Make learning enjoyable. the last thing I want as a tutor is a student dreading doing their work. If I can push them to find satisfaction and fun out of learning then I feel I have succeeded. Inside MinnamurraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Lily revised algebra basics and solved two-step equations, using **worked examples to clarify each step**.

In Year 10, Ben completed a pre-test on surds and practised **simplifying expressions from his classwork**.

For Year 11, Mia focused on financial maths topics including tax and wages, applying **real-life scenarios to consolidate her understanding of pay calculations and deductions**.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, a student repeatedly avoided setting out working in algebra clearly—"he skipped steps, so small sign errors weren't caught," one tutor observed. This led to extra time spent searching for mistakes rather than understanding the method.

A Year 10 student tackling trigonometry struggled with worded problems, often rushing through reading without underlining key details, which meant incorrect triangles were drawn from the start.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student hesitated to label each step when solving financial maths questions; as a result, the final answers sometimes didn't match what was being asked.

Recent Achievements

A Minnamurra tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to skip steps in her working now consistently lays out her calculations clearly when tackling z-score problems.

In a high school session, another student who had struggled with finance topics surprised herself by not only remembering key equations but also explaining them back during practice questions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously hesitated to attempt worded maths problems has started reading each question aloud before confidently solving them one step at a time, finishing an entire worksheet without needing prompts.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kiama Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Minnamurra Public School.
