The ability to understand the student's likes and dislikes, this allows the tutor to change his/her teaching style to match the student's path of understanding and through this the student is more likely to learn and benefit from the lesson. This is crucial in the student's journey and one of the main characteristics that a tutor should have. My…

A tutor can help a student to gain confidence. Usually students lose confidence and thus lose interest in a subject. Mathematics, being really important for career opportunities, is an interesting subject, we just need the right support at the right time and that's what tutors are there for. Confidence and hard work is the key to succeed in any…

A tutor can be a best friend at times. Not every time we need to make our students just do their studies. The biggest thing a tutor can contribute is his/her time. For a student getting access to his/her tutor at any time with any hurdle is the biggest thing that he/she needs. So I guess being available at all times for a student is the biggest…

The most important thing a tutor can do for there students is understand them instead of pressuring them. This means when they don't understand something quickly going through a concept over and over again along with creating a supportive environment where they are comfortable asking questions. A tutor's role goes beyond just imparting knowledge. They should build confidence and self-belief, create a personalized and supportive learning environment, and encourage active learning and critical thinking. Clear explanations, achievable goals, and constructive feedback are essential. A tutor should also foster independence, provide guidance…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to ensure that the student is getting work done even when you are not there. This isnt necessarily homework but rather, making sure the student is motivated and has goals established at least mentally. Most students have not yet figured out what exactly they want to do but its important to…

A tutor firstly have to understand a student or knows better what the way that student likes of teaching . A student preference is always a first poriority of a teacher as I always believe that a teacher is like a candle who burn itself and give light to others. I think the strength and weakness of a teacher is their students . If a student…

Make sure to help them at anytime and with anything they need help with. I don’t believe in tutors who can’t help students if they have any questions which is not related exactly with the topic they are studying. I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do is understand the needs of each student and adapt their teaching style in order to maximise the benefits that the student can get from tutoring. It's the capacity to come up with new approaches to assist your kids in learning. Students learn in different ways and at varying speeds. As a student, I expect my teachers to explain things in a way that I can grasp. Unlike my university instructors, who simply read the slides and call it a class. NO! I don't teach that manner, and I don't…

Inside Mount DruittTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Kush focused on addition and subtraction facts that make ten, practiced forming letters through sentence writing, and used diagrams to explore basic division.

Year 9 student Chelsea worked on drafting and editing a persuasive speech, received feedback to improve her arguments, and revised paragraphs for clarity.

For Year 12 student Jason, recent sessions covered advanced equilibrium reactions in Chemistry—breaking down subtopics like acidic reactions—and included HSC exam revision on acids and bases.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 English, a tendency to edit sentences only after finishing the whole paragraph—rather than as ideas develop—often left early drafts wordy and lacking clarity. As noted, "editing work and condensing sentences" was delayed, making it harder to tie evidence smoothly into arguments.

For a Year 4 maths student, rushing when drawing circles for subtraction problems meant that merged shapes caused wrong answers; "he needs to take time when drawing the circles," observed the tutor.

In senior Chemistry (Year 11), revision focused mostly on familiar acids and bases questions rather than challenging new organic theory, so deeper understanding stalled just before exams.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Mount Druitt noticed a Year 9 student who used to hesitate when reading Shakespeare now confidently answers targeted questions about *Romeo and Juliet* and even asks for clarification instead of staying quiet.

In a senior English session, another student, previously unsure how to build an argument, was able to write three strong contention sentences for a prompt and pick out persuasive techniques independently.

Meanwhile, a younger student who often rushed through subtraction problems started checking his own work more carefully during lessons and got most answers correct on his latest worksheet.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mt Druitt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mount Druitt Public School.
