I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are 1. to develop the interests in learning, such as changing the dull mathematics class into interesting storytelling games. 2. To provide useful problem-solving tips that students can easily pick up and apply. 3. Continuously give students sense of achievements by helping them…

In my view the most important contribution of a tutor is helping her student do well academically as well as in personal and professional life. It is not just about the concepts but also their practical implications and applications. In my view I have always been a good teacher to my students. Lucky enough to make a difference in their lives. My…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is build confidence. Sometime, all it takes is confidence for a student who is unsure about their abilities to really flourish. I'd say my strengths lie in being patient. Given I have recently graduated from highschool, it means I have a better understanding of what students are…

The most important thing a tutor can do is completely make sure the student has received and understood the knowledge that has been given by a tutor. Furthermore, it is key that a tutor is able to deliver the contents of the subject in a fun and easy manner for the student to understand and grasp. Building their confidence and making it genuinely okay to be wrong. So many kids are terrified of giving the wrong answer, and that fear holds them back way more than the actual material does. If I can be a space where they feel safe enough to make mistakes and try again without embarrassment, that's going to do a lot more for them in the long run…

I should be able to make learning fun for the student and make the student feel more confident while dealing with the subject. The student might slowly develop liking for the subject if they find it easy and interesting. The most important task that should be done is that the concept is clear for the student such that they don't ever feel the…

To be an effective tutor, creating a positive learning environment and building connection with the student is crucial. Tutors should be adaptable and tailor their approach to the student's learning style. Constructive feedback is necessary to help students stay motivated and progress toward their goals. I believe that understanding is the most important thing a tutor must do for a student. Without comprehension, the tutor would not be able to communicate with the student in the same language, making it impossible for the tutor to address the issue the student is having and come up with solutions to help the student's condition. I am currently…

I believe being able to provide individualised instructions is a crucial part of being a tutor. Tailoring teaching methods to suit the student's learning style, pace, and preferences ensures a more effective and personalised learning experience. Additionally, beyond academic achievements, a tutor should inspire a passion for learning and promote…

I think a tutor’s responsibility is to ensure a foundational level of understanding is reached and giving the student a space to ask questions they may not in class. Local Reviews

I've had a wonderful experience with this tutoring service. It's so easy to connect with the team—whether you prefer picking up the phone or sending an email, the client service representatives are quick to respond. They provide a clear overview of expectations and requirements, and then you can sit back while they take care of matching your child with the right tutor. The convenience of having sessions at home, at a time that fits your schedule, really helps relieve the stress of managing other responsibilities. The trial session before committing makes it easy to ensure you're paired with the right person to meet your child's individual needs. After that, it's just a simple process to reallocate sessions and you're good to go—everyone's happy. I also appreciate the discount for paying upfront for sessions. The representatives are always easy to connect with, and they follow up to make sure everything is going smoothly. We've been really pleased with the tutors assigned to us, and it's clear the team takes time to carefully match tutors based on our needs. Overall, a great experience!

Inside Mount WaverleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jessica worked on plotting linear graphs, including handling multiple lines on a single Cartesian plane, and used real examples to understand gradients and intercepts.

In Year 10, Ryan focused on quadratic equations by practicing completing the square and explored graphing parabolas with dilations and translations.

For Year 12, Ethan revised differentiation techniques such as the chain, product, and quotient rules and applied these skills to solve application questions from past exam papers.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Specialist Maths, a student waited until the last day to complete homework on simultaneous equations, leading to forgotten steps and gaps in recall—"by which she has forgotten what we learned last week."

In VCE Methods revision, another learner avoided writing full working or using correct notation when tackling calculus and graphing tasks; equal signs and logical layout were often missing, making it harder to track errors or secure marks.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 session revealed distraction from mobile phones during lessons, with note-taking left incomplete and explanations needing extra time to land. The result: confusion lingers where clarity was needed most.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Mount Waverley noticed a big shift with one Year 11 student who, after weeks of hesitating to speak up, started asking for clarification whenever something was unclear—especially during tricky calculus problems.

Another high school student, previously overwhelmed by her school's approach, surprised herself by requesting extra homework at the end of the session and tackling it independently.

Meanwhile, a younger student showed real initiative: she now catches her own mistakes in maths without prompting and even laughs about "silly errors" instead of getting discouraged. Last week, she redid all her practice questions solo after reviewing the method together.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Monash Public Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Family School.
