Number one thing I believe a tutor should do is to show how incredible studying, or should I say learning is, so that they develop a mindset to continuously learn new things for the rest of their lives. I'm very proficient in maths, and was hoping to spread my knowledge to current students of all math…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to thoroughly understand the student's struggles and to provide their services in a way that best suits the student so they are able to reap the most benefits out of the sessions. I believe my key strengths as a tutor would be that I have a casual and welcoming manner, allowing…

The most important thing a tutor can do is give the student more confidence in themselves and their learning. There is only so much you can teach someone if they give up on themselves, so the most important thing is ensuring that confidence. I also believe that it's important to have good communication so that the student feels that they can ask…

Tutors can instill confidence in students, which is very important. Students already have so many things to stress about, by giving them some confidence and reassurance in their school work you can help them feel better. Tutors should provide a safe space where students feel comfortable in sharing their concerns. As a tutor you should prioritize…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help the student learn in a way that works for them. Usually in a classroom, due to the overwhelming number of students, teachers aren't always able to help students individually. Therefore, sometimes a student that is struggling is only struggling because they learn better with a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to first help them believe they are able to achieve success, no matter what level of ability they are currently at. A tutor or at least a teacher is someone who can give students a helping hand, perhaps a friend is too informal but someone they can relate to. I think being able to understand your student and what makes them improve or how they can improve is also essential as a tutor and a teacher. It is useless to spoon feed facts and knowledge to a student if…

I truly think empowering a student to ask questions is one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. The confidence to ask questions leads to a student's ability to think for themselves. This combination is what allows maximum progress. Inside Murrumba DownsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Poppy worked on understanding scale factors and calculating the volume of cylinders and rectangular prisms, using class examples and diagrams.

Year 10 Ella focused on revising linear functions through a mini quiz and then practiced applying index laws to equations, with flashcards for reinforcement.

In Year 11, Dirk tackled graph transformations in Chapter 7 of his textbook, exploring set notation, domain and range, as well as graphing piecewise equations.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Chemistry, over-reliance on calculators led to missed errors in calculations; as one tutor noted, "he needs to double-check the solutions as there were some avoidable errors."

A Year 10 student repeatedly left assignment work incomplete and rarely sought clarification when unsure, which resulted in confusion about key requirements.

In Year 8 Mathematics, skipping written steps during quadratic problems caused sign mistakes and later confusion while reviewing solutions.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student often forgot to bring essential materials like her calculator, limiting practice with Pythagoras' theorem and trigonometry questions during sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Murrumba Downs noticed Poppy, a high school student, starting to tackle scale factor and linear equation problems with more independence—she now tries every quiz question even if she's unsure, whereas before she'd skip them or wait for help.

In another session, Dirk, also in high school, began showing initiative by breaking his assignment into smaller steps himself and could solve quadratic equations with much less guidance than before.

Meanwhile, younger student Callum recently surprised his tutor by recalling all of his 6 times tables from memory and confidently moving on to the 7s without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as North Lakes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Murrumba State Secondary College.
