Help a student not only do better or to learn further in a subject but to actually inspire them to want to study and do they best that they can. Because at the end of the day there is only so much a tutor can do, the student has to want to learn as well and thus inspiring to do so is the most important thing a tutor can do in my opinion. I believe…

A tutor should have a genuine interest in the well-being and benefit of the students. The lessons should be constructed to be efficiently beneficial to the student. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them grow on a daily basis. An important characteristic to take on as a tutor is to listen and communicate effectively with the student in order to help teach material in a way that helps them understand. Not regurgitate the same information given on google or at schools regarding their difficult topics, but instead to approach the student and the lesson with the ambition to simplify complexities in your own intuitive way. This is with respect to the student's preferential medium for learning, which you as a tutor need to manipulate effectively to…

I think the most important thing tutors can do is create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Too often, students stay quiet out of fear or embarrassment, so it's essential for tutors to slow down and check for genuine understanding, rather than rushing through material. Tutors also shouldn't just…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to hear and understand their concerns in the chosen subject. Working closely with students requires a tutor to understand and adhere to the specific details in which the student is struggling. Doing this in turn, helps a student holistically gain a better understanding. My strengths are…

Being patient in allowing students to fully grasp a topic or idea before proceeding. Often students have topics and subjects that have been neglected by the schooling system, and sometimes it is necessary to move backward before we go forward. I have been a student myself for 13 years and have an acute understanding of what assists myself and…

A tutor should be able to make subjects understandable and enjoyable for their students so they get to learn it easier and faster. They should be able to impart knowledge in many different ways in order to have the capacity to teach people who learn in different ways. I'm really patient with people, especially children. I really enjoy being able…

Inside Narellan ValeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Olivia worked through multiplying and dividing proper and mixed fractions, focusing on step-by-step calculations.

In Year 9, Ethan tackled trigonometry problems involving bearings and directions, then applied right-angled triangle rules to practical scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lily focused on solving quadratic equations and interpreting their graphs using worked examples to build fluency with factorisation and parabola sketching.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student missed maths homework twice in a row, which limited their ability to master recent algebra topics—"Needs to complete his homework to improve overall understanding," noted one tutor.

In Year 11 Chemistry, a student delayed telling anyone about an upcoming exam until three days before, resulting in rushed preparation and gaps when balancing equations.

A Year 6 student avoided independent revision, only practicing questions set by the tutor; this meant weaker areas like multiplication were left unaddressed outside lessons.

During HSC practice sessions, another student struggled with time management on trial papers and couldn't attempt all sections confidently.

Recent Achievements

One Narellan Vale tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to avoid homework is now completing all assignments on time and openly shares where he gets stuck, rather than keeping quiet.

In a senior chemistry session, a high schooler who previously mixed up reaction types was able to clearly identify and explain combustion reactions without prompting.

Meanwhile, during a Year 5 lesson, a younger student who often guessed at answers began self-correcting after spotting his own mistake in classwork—he finished the worksheet with every question right after revisiting the tricky one himself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Narellan Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Narellan Vale Public School.
