I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not merely give additional lessons, but connect with them to gauge their individual skills and aid in further establishing them. Academic prowess is highly regarded, and to be able to watch a student grow to achieve such a goal would be very fulfilling. In my opinion, recognising…

Though grades and academic achievement are certainly important and achievable through tutoring (I am proof of that as my grades grew from year to year), the most important thing I could do for my students is give them a safe and productive learning environment. Children can build their confidence in subjects and in general through me. I work to…

The most important things a tutor can do are to build a student’s confidence, provide personalized guidance, and create a safe space for learning. A tutor should not only help students improve academically but also encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and independence. By showing students how to approach challenges and believe in their…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help students understand concepts rather than simply giving them the answers. A good tutor encourages critical thinking, builds problem-solving skills, and helps students develop the confidence to work through challenges on their own. Creating a supportive and positive learning environment also…

I believe that while the teaching aspect of tutoring is exceptionally important, I also believe that supporting and motivating students when marks aren't exceptional is equally as important. This support means that even if students are feeling down, talking through the essay/assignment/exam and highlighting the positives as well as improvements…

The most important things a tutor can do for their student are to be patient, be approachable, be kind and be able to teach. The student should be able to walk away from a lesson feeling confident in what they learned and not being afraid to ask any questions. I would definitely say my strengths as a tutor would be my ability to communicate…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do is build the student's confidence in themselves and their own abilities so that the student is able to realise that with a little guidance and support they can achieve anything they want. I think my biggest strength as a tutor is that I have the patience required to explain a new challenging…

Local Reviews

Our daughter Meg has been struggling with multiplication and generally not interested in math at all. Since Angela has been tutoring Meg (for a few weeks now) we have seen a huge improvement in her math. Angela has a very gentle, friendly and patient approach in the way she teaches and puts a lot of thought and effort into her work i.e. she brings along many props. a white board, worksheets and visuals to make it easier for Meg to learn different strategies. Meg thinks she's great and really enjoys her lessons. Meg is also doing much better at school to. Angela is amazing at what she does and we couldn't be happier! We definitely recommend her to anyone who is looking for a tutor.

Inside PalmyraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Abbi focused on factorising and simplifying algebraic expressions, then moved on to solving quadratic equations using methods like completing the square and the quadratic formula.

Year 9 Isabel worked through trigonometry problems and revised for exams by tackling practice questions involving parabolas, simultaneous equations, and rationalising surds.

Meanwhile, Year 4 Jimmy practiced rounding numbers using number lines for visualization, completed long division challenges, and reinforced essay writing skills by drafting structured body paragraphs together.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Methods, Isabel often skipped working steps and rushed through long equations, leading to small errors: "She tends to solve things the 'hard' way without stopping and thinking about the best method." This cost marks in algebra and turning point problems.

For Year 10 Maths, Abbi struggled with worded quadratic questions—she found it difficult to extract key information and convert it into equations, especially after longer breaks from practice.

In Year 5 English, Jimmy's highlighting was unfocused; when asked to find important words in a passage, he highlighted almost everything, making reading slow and overwhelming.

Recent Achievements

One Palmyra tutor noticed Isabel's steady shift towards independence in Year 10 maths: after struggling with worded problems, she recently scored 81% on her exam—up from 60%—and now tackles most application questions solo.

In a recent session, Abbi (Year 11) moved from needing help to solving standard quadratic equations entirely on her own, even showing initiative by attempting harder simultaneous equation tasks without prompting.

Meanwhile, Jimmy (Year 4) made a leap in essay writing; he previously needed step-by-step guidance but managed to complete a full body paragraph himself for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as AH Bracks Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Richmond Primary School.
