It can be overwhelming to feel confused or left behind in school which can eventually affect your self-confidence. Tutoring gives students a safe space to learn at their own pace without feeling judged or incapable. My greatest strength as a tutor would be my patience and ability to simplify complex concepts in ways students can relate to. I can…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student beyond simply teaching academic content is ‘build confidence’. Many students struggle with confidence, especially when facing challenging subjects or tasks. A tutor provides a student with the platform to perform at their highest academic potential. This is achieved by ensuring a student has an adequate understanding of key concepts and the targeted material to practice those concepts in an exam environment. The important difference between a tutor and a teacher is that a student gives a student the…

In my opinion, a tutor is not just for supporting a student to complete his assessments and helping them to solve questions. A tutor has an even more close connection with a student than his school teacher. Hence he has a better chance to identify what is the level of a particular student and what support he or she actually needs. Other…

I think the most significant thing that a tutor can do is to instill confidence in the student, make them able to learn, and independent learners. It's not providing them with the answers but making them see the 'why' about things. A good tutor listens, is attuned to the way of learning of the student, and gets them at ease asking questions and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to stay patient with him or her when they are not able get hold of a concept. That is what differentiates a great teacher from a good teacher. First and foremost helping the student to develop logic, as logic is everywhere, and making them understand each problem before solving it. Inside Pascoe ValeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Adam completed reading comprehension tasks with multiple choice questions and wrote a creative paragraph about what he would do if he saw a dinosaur in the backyard.

Year 10 student Lucy focused on the roles and responsibilities of judges, accused persons, prosecution, and legal practitioners in the court system, as well as exploring the purposes of criminal sanctions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Harsh worked through key psychology topics including subdivisions of the central and peripheral nervous systems for responding to sensory stimuli and examined how neurotransmitters such as glutamate and GABA influence neural communication.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student hesitated to start sentences without prompting and often needed help generating ideas for writing, which slowed progress on tasks.

In a Year 7 English lesson, he rushed through multiple-choice questions and relied on teacher approval before circling answers, leading to uncertainty and second-guessing.

Across several year levels, spelling errors recurred—especially when work was completed in haste or without checking.

A Year 10 student took too long on homework, then hurried later tasks "for the sake of completion," resulting in missed corrections and lower-quality responses. This left him feeling unsure about his final answers.

Recent Achievements

One Pascoe Vale tutor noticed a Year 10 student recently started tackling practice questions independently without checking her notes, a big step up from earlier sessions when she relied on them for every answer.

In Year 8 English, a student who used to avoid reading aloud now volunteers to read whole pages and even goes back to fix any sentences that sound off—something he was once hesitant about.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student has begun spelling unfamiliar words by breaking them into syllables and trying on his own before asking for help, finishing last week's spelling test with almost no errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbell-Turnbull Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Pascoe Vale Primary School.
