One of my tutors in Year 12 told us that confidence is the most important thing a student can have. This has proven to be true in my experience. Once I gained confidence in my knowledge, I was able to experiment with answering questions in different ways, deepening my understanding. As a tutor, the most important thing to do is inspire confidence…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is ensure the student understands the content, and doesn't just get the marks if they don't understand the content properly. They also need to be someone who the student can feel comfortable talking to and asking questions, regardless of how 'silly' the question may seem. Good communication…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are helping them understand the material, building their confidence, and improving their problem-solving skills. By explaining things clearly and in a way that makes sense to the student, a tutor can help them grasp tough topics. Encouraging the student and showing them they can succeed on…

I think the most important thing for a tutor is to understand what the student needs and work through those blocks with positive reinforcement. Some students have a hard time understanding concepts while others have no faith in themselves and struggle to retain information. I believe that the best thing a tutor can do for a student is to figure…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to foster a love for learning. When a tutor instills a genuine curiosity and passion for acquiring knowledge, it becomes a lifelong gift that goes beyond specific subjects or exams. By nurturing this love for learning, tutors empower their students to become self-motivated, independent…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to create and maintain a safe and nurturing environment where the student is free to make and learn from their mistakes and are not afraid to ask for assistance when he/she needs additional help with the concept being taught. Therefore, this will be the environment that I will…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is dedicate as much time and effort needed for the student to fully understand the topic. Especially with math based subjects, if the student doesn't fully understand one topic, it is possible that the student can't understand harder concepts. -Explaining complex concepts in the most…

I really fell that a tutor should be a friend and not like a teacher so that student can easily approach them with their silly doubt without any fear and clear their concept thoroughly. The most important role of a tutor is to transform a student’s mindset. Beyond teaching content, I aim to impart a genuine passion for the subject and build the self-belief that they are capable of mastering it. When a student stops saying 'I can't do this' and starts asking 'How do I solve this?', that is real success. As an Engineering Masters…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. In my opinion, the most valuable thing that a tutor can do for the student is to bring his/her interest to learn about anything in academic subjects. Most of the students nowadays are more keen on social media postings and playing online games. Sometimes, they forgot how important the academic knowledge in their lives. So, bring back the student's…

Inside PemulwuyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aryan worked on addition using number lines and practised multiplication questions to build fluency.

In Year 10, Patrick focused on discrete probability concepts from his yearly exam, including expected value and variance, and also reviewed applications of trigonometry in two dimensions such as angles of elevation and depression.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Ali completed HSC-level revision under timed conditions with an emphasis on differentiation techniques and integrating exponential functions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4, one student hesitated to show working for double-digit multiplication and needed reminders to recall each step without relying on previous solutions.

"He often began from the right but lost track of the next steps," a tutor noted, which led to confusion midway.

In Year 11 Maths, another student became overly dependent on formula sheets rather than interpreting what a probability or integration question truly required; this habit left her stumped by unfamiliar wording during practice exams.

When faced with multi-step algebra in Year 9, skipping written working hid key errors—making it hard to spot where she went wrong.

Recent Achievements

A Pemulwuy tutor recently noticed a Year 12 student coming to each session with specific questions prepared, a big shift from last term when he'd wait passively for guidance—he even completed two years' worth of HSC papers independently and pinpointed his weak spots himself.

In Year 10, another student who previously hesitated to speak up now regularly asks for clarification as soon as something doesn't make sense, sometimes even requesting alternative solutions.

Meanwhile, a younger student in primary school started drawing dot arrays to tackle multiplication problems—something he avoided before—and now finishes simple times tables with little help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greystanes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ebenezer Christian College.
