The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to believe in them. As a tutor, you have to be able to show them that you know they can do well so they can believe it themselves. I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to foster curiosity and build a student's confidence. When students become curious, they are more likely to explore ideas…

Inside PemulwuyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aryan worked on addition using number lines and practised multiplication questions to build fluency.

In Year 10, Patrick focused on discrete probability concepts from his yearly exam, including expected value and variance, and also reviewed applications of trigonometry in two dimensions such as angles of elevation and depression.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Ali completed HSC-level revision under timed conditions with an emphasis on differentiation techniques and integrating exponential functions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4, one student hesitated to show working for double-digit multiplication and needed reminders to recall each step without relying on previous solutions.

"He often began from the right but lost track of the next steps," a tutor noted, which led to confusion midway.

In Year 11 Maths, another student became overly dependent on formula sheets rather than interpreting what a probability or integration question truly required; this habit left her stumped by unfamiliar wording during practice exams.

When faced with multi-step algebra in Year 9, skipping written working hid key errors—making it hard to spot where she went wrong.

Recent Achievements

A Pemulwuy tutor recently noticed a Year 12 student coming to each session with specific questions prepared, a big shift from last term when he'd wait passively for guidance—he even completed two years' worth of HSC papers independently and pinpointed his weak spots himself.

In Year 10, another student who previously hesitated to speak up now regularly asks for clarification as soon as something doesn't make sense, sometimes even requesting alternative solutions.

Meanwhile, a younger student in primary school started drawing dot arrays to tackle multiplication problems—something he avoided before—and now finishes simple times tables with little help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greystanes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ebenezer Christian College.
