A tutor has the ability to lend a comforting ear to the student away from the classroom. A tutor can lift a students morale by providing a safe space outside the classroom where they can voice their academic concerns. In essence an effective tutor means undivided attention to cater for a students well being. I am result oriented. I am an active…

The most important thing i believe a tutor can do for a student is create a open and friendly environment which helps students to not be shy and embrace their confusions and allow the teacher to help them rather than keeping it to themselves and being behind. Having an open environment really helps students bring comfort mentally to express…

I think according to me the most important thing for a tutor is to make his/her students satisfied with the topic taught. The tutor should focus on making his/her student understand the basic of the concepts and making their foundations strong. I am really patient and can understand the whole depth of the problem that my student…

A tutor can do: 1. Identify areas for improvement: The very first thing a tutor should do for their students is to identify which skills they need to work on. For example: communication or any algebraic formula. 2. Problem-solving: A tutor should have the ability to identify a problem and create solutions, contributes to a beneficial tutoring…

I think that the most important thing for any tutor can do for their students is ensure that they are understanding the concepts. Moreover, I feel that it is really necessary for tutors to teach at students' pace of understanding instead of students learning at tutor's pace. Apart from this, tutors should create an environment where students dont…

I think that creating an environment where curiosity is rewarded is the most important thing, as this is what deepens love for a subject in students. By explaining concepts wholly and encouraging questions, students will want to learn the content completely instead of just memorising it, resulting in better academics. Alongside this, showing…

Very easy to get started. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Quick service with the actual tutor calling almost the next day to sort out when available. Big improvement in my Year 9 child's math studies. It has really helped her to understand Maths; with her knowledge being quite basic to start with. Was failing and within 3 months got her first pass in a major math test.
Gabriella, Point Cook

Inside Point CookTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Daniel focused on solving linear equations and modelling real-world scenarios with them, along with annuity and interest calculations in financial mathematics.

In Year 11, Emily worked through Math Methods Unit 1 and 2, tackling polynomials, functions, and the application of quadratic equations using chapter-based exercises.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Josh practiced Further Maths matrices modules—transposing matrices and interpreting networks—and reviewed past exam papers to strengthen problem-solving speed and accuracy under timed conditions.

Recent Challenges

Several students in both primary and secondary years relied heavily on calculators or online modules instead of practicing key maths operations by hand, especially with algebra and negative numbers.

For example, one Year 8 student was encouraged to "do more pen and paper practice rather than relying on Math Pathway modules" after missing steps in factorization exercises.

In VCE Maths Methods, another student's messy working made it hard to spot errors before tests—"a dedicated workbook to write the steps in detail" was suggested for clarity. This sometimes led to extra time spent retracing unclear calculations during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Point Cook tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after weeks of mixing up steps, is now carefully listing every stage of advanced algebra factorisation before checking answers—he'd previously skipped straight to solutions and made small errors.

A Year 12 student has started timing herself on statistics extended-response questions; she used to get stuck for ages but now completes each in under fifteen minutes, which is a real change in her exam readiness.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who often guessed at tricky spellings now points out when she's unsure and asks for help spelling new words aloud during lessons.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Point Cook Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lumen Christi School.
