The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to accommodate their learning style. Students have ranging techniques and motivations when learning content. Personally, I struggled with auditory learning as a student, and would therefore ask my teachers to give me a range of tactile learning techniques to assist in my learning. I…

I believe that getting high grades in school is not the most important goal for my student (although this is something we work towards), but rather what is most important for me as a tutor is to see them learn, progress and improve each time. I want to teach them the value of hard work while building up their confidence and motivation to tackle…

Something that sets me apart from many other tutors is that I’m very relatable, something which I think is very important to a student. Personally, I’ve known in the past what it’s like to sometimes struggle academically, however, experience has shown me that part of it what it takes to succeed is a great work ethic and an awesome mentor.…

Engage, Communicate, Feedback. I think these three are the pillars of a student's willingness to learn. Apart from that, it is the tutor's responsibility to ensure the students learn. Every student is different and needs a different approach sometimes. We've known this since the big bang probably. But we keep ignoring something even more…

Instill confidence in the student about their own ability to learn and achieve their academic goals. The tutor should tailor their approach to the needs of each student. - Not everyone learns the same way and the tutor should be prepared to be creative in the ways he or she teaches core concepts or content. A good tutor should firstly ensure that the student has a solid grasp of the foundational knowledge underpinning their subject, before moving on to teach more complex concepts. This is because oftentimes a subject's more advanced concepts will draw heavily from assumed foundational knowledge. Additionally a tutor can instill confidence in a…

Inspire. Not every child enjoys learning the way we need to in society so a teachers and tutors, we need to be able to be creative enough for those individual students who need more guidance. Inside ProspectTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Hannah focused on simplifying fractions and converting them into decimals using long division.

Year 8 student Sarah worked through algebra expansion and applied the difference of two squares to solve problems.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Jack practised solving quadratic equations and calculated the distance between two points on a coordinate plane.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often made small calculation errors in algebra because her working was cramped—she could consider spacing out her writing, which would help her see things clearer and avoid miscues.

In Year 11, forgetting to inform the tutor about an upcoming test meant missing out on targeted preparation.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student sometimes forgot to complete homework and needed reminders to use notes more actively when stuck on multiplication tables.

When distracted during lessons (as noted in Year 8), it led to confusion with sign rules and slower progress on new topics.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Prospect recently saw Athena, a high school student, take real initiative by constructing her own step-by-step solutions for challenging algebra problems—something she'd hesitated to do before.

Another high schooler, Constanza, has shifted from passively listening to actively asking clarifying questions about fractions and now tackles new equations much faster than at the start of term.

In Year 4, Alyse was able to apply formulas independently when solving worded problems after initially needing lots of prompting; this time she completed her worksheet without any hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Prospect Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosary School.
