I will consistently encourage all my students to always try, and practise, and try again, until they master whatever they were first struggling with. Their dreams become my dreams for them, so I will never let my students give up on reaching their goals. Improvements do not happen overnight, but whenever they do happen, no matter how small, I…

The most important thing as a tutor is to put yourself in the student's shoes and make sure they are learning and taking in something useful after every session. This makes the most out of their time and also helps to make them more confident in their studies, which also builds trust between the student and tutor which is key to making them…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to guide and mentor students beyond simply teaching content. A tutor should create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Encouraging students to understand the fundamentals and enjoy the learning process builds long-term confidence and…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to open a rapport that makes them feel safe and understood, an environment where they are not afraid to try and even not afraid to fail, in the knowledge that with help and direction they can try again and do better. With the acceptance that 1 style (or even 10 styles!) of teaching…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is truly understand the person’s problems, challenges, and learning gaps. Everyone learns differently, and effective tutoring begins with listening carefully and identifying where they are genuinely struggling. A tutor should pause and address difficulties properly rather than rushing to simply…

The learnings given by a tutor needs to be tailored as per the student.. Every individual is different, has different interests, has different caliber. We need to understand their potential, unlock it and provide our boost to it. I am a very patient person and understand that i may need to repeat my explanations as needed. Sometimes I might need…

I believe the most important thing here would be to ensure the student understands what is being taught and is able to move forward in their learning. It is very important as a tutor to understand your student. Be his silent friend and connect with him. Read his mental abilities, his interest, observe his qualities and disabilities, his way of learning things. And then try to impart the teaching depending on all these factors. Each student is different and so is the method of teaching. Teaching…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them want to study a topic, to present a topic in a certain way that makes the student more enthusiastic to learn. Although understanding a subject is extremely important, I believe the students' willingness to learn is equally important as trying to teach a student to…

Some of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is engage them within a subject, keep them interested to learn more, and motivate students to do their absolute best. In my opinion, I think that it is important to understand every student is different and has their way of learning. It is important for a tutor to identify and tailor a plan for each student so that they are learning efficiently. For example, as I am a visual and auditory learner, I learn most efficiently by watching lectures and videos and less…

Encouraging and patient when explaining concepts to students. Tutors need to provide encouragement as this will build both motivation within the student to do well in a subject, and increase their overall confidence in a difficult topic. I believe setting achievable goals is also an important thing a tutor can do. Patience is also critical, as…

Inside ProspectTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Hannah focused on simplifying fractions and converting them into decimals using long division.

Year 8 student Sarah worked through algebra expansion and applied the difference of two squares to solve problems.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Jack practised solving quadratic equations and calculated the distance between two points on a coordinate plane.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often made small calculation errors in algebra because her working was cramped—she could consider spacing out her writing, which would help her see things clearer and avoid miscues.

In Year 11, forgetting to inform the tutor about an upcoming test meant missing out on targeted preparation.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student sometimes forgot to complete homework and needed reminders to use notes more actively when stuck on multiplication tables.

When distracted during lessons (as noted in Year 8), it led to confusion with sign rules and slower progress on new topics.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Prospect recently saw Athena, a high school student, take real initiative by constructing her own step-by-step solutions for challenging algebra problems—something she'd hesitated to do before.

Another high schooler, Constanza, has shifted from passively listening to actively asking clarifying questions about fractions and now tackles new equations much faster than at the start of term.

In Year 4, Alyse was able to apply formulas independently when solving worded problems after initially needing lots of prompting; this time she completed her worksheet without any hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Prospect Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosary School.
