A tutor can guide a student to succeed. Not only in studies, but life in general. If tutors can make students aware of certain things which changes how they operate and that is the greatest thing a tutor can do. I am very patient and understanding. I try to listen to them and change my strategy. Understanding their needs makes me efficient to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student understand in a easy and comfortable way, even if the tutor has to repeat it so many times for them. Another important thing is that all children should not be left behind, as I tutor, he/she should move together at the pace of students and that no one should be left out.…

I think an important role tutor must be able to do is to be able to adaptable in their teaching style to cater to the needs of students. Additionally being relatable and exploring how this knowledge can be expanded to world wide applications. I believe tutors need to make strong relationships with both students in order for them to feel…

Tutors have to be cooperative and empathetic to teach students. Moreover, they need to embody leadership qualities. It is necessary for the students to enjoy learning so that they can have a complete grasp of knowledge about a particular subject. This will allow them to achieve their desired results. Being active when students are in need the most, answering questions as students ask them. It is important to ensure the student feels completely fine to express themselves and ask tutors any questions they may have, during and after the lesson. A tutor should be attentive and ensure the student has no questions before progressing further. I feel…

The most important thing a tutor can do is provide a judgment-free, open space where students feel comfortable asking any question - even those that may seem obvious. This not only builds a strong rapport with the student but also helps solidify their understanding. My biggest strength would be my ability to listen to the student. I believe it's…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to build both understanding and confidence in a student. While improving academic performance is important, students learn best when they feel supported and capable. A good tutor should explain concepts clearly, adapt to each student’s learning style, and create a safe environment where…

Not give the answers but help support the learning process and give guidance when the child needs it most. I believe that personalisation is what sets apart a tutor from an effective teacher. Students should initially be analysed for their approach to questions, personal goals and grievances to adroitly construct a program for them to adapt to. Consistency can further this notion and assist the student in improving their grades. My Strengths as a tutor…

Inside Regents ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Tom worked through algebraic techniques such as expanding and simplifying by factorising expressions, along with revision of indices and powers of zero.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Olivia focused on coordinate geometry by finding gradients between points and revising congruency proofs using triangles.

For Year 10, Ethan completed lessons on surds—including rationalising denominators—and practiced applying index laws to simplify complex expressions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3 and 4 maths, some students often relied on mental calculations rather than writing out working; as one tutor observed, "he needs to practice doing his working out on paper rather than in his head." This habit made it harder to catch small errors with fractions and perimeter.

By Year 7, a pattern emerged: homework was sometimes incomplete or rushed, limiting feedback opportunities—"I would like to see his homework completed with more effort… there were quite a few errors that could have been due to lack of understanding or rushing."

In senior years (Year 10/11), confidence issues became pronounced during multi-step algebra and trigonometry problems. Students hesitated when unfamiliar questions arose, doubting their abilities even after correct answers. This hesitation led to missed marks under exam pressure, especially when layout was messy or shortcuts were taken in working—forcing time-consuming backtracking mid-test.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Regents Park noticed a Year 10 student who used to rush through algebra now taking extra care with each step—he's started writing out his full working and catching mistakes himself.

Another high schooler recently surprised herself by walking the tutor through a challenging probability problem aloud, a big change from her earlier hesitation to explain her thinking.

In primary, one student who always guessed at perimeter questions was able to calculate the perimeter independently for the first time this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Regents Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Regents Park Public School.
