I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand their point of view. From my experience as a student, I struggled with issues inside and outside the classroom, and some teachers just stacked on the workload with no recognition of how much it wasn't helping. It was my ancient teacher who helped me enjoy studying as he…

One of the most important things would be the environment the tutor and student are in. The more comfortable but slightly stressed-out the students are, the more productive the tutoring session would be. Another essential aspect of tutoring would be the ability for the tutor to deeply understand the concept themselves in order for them to simplify…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to develop a good enough connection with the student which would allow them to be comfortable enough to open up about any questions they have with the content being taught. This involves building rapport with the student and understanding thoroughly how the student grasps information and…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with a good foundation of knowledge so that they can build up and improve their academic result from that. Besides, the tutor is responsible for constantly building confidence so that the student can believe in their abilities to solve tough problems. When they…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help students build the confidence and skills to learn independently. A tutor's role isn't only to explain concepts, but also to equip students with the strategies and mindset to approach new material independently. By guiding them to understand the basics deeply and think critically, tutors can…

I think it is important to understand each students requirements and aptitude. Same teaching techniques cannot be applied to everyone. So a teacher has to be mature and experienced enough to help students. I have a strong connection with academia, so I understand students' needs well. Inside RevesbyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Nicholas worked through factorisation techniques, including perfect squares and difference of two squares, and also practised simplifying algebraic fractions using his homework as a base.

For Year 9, Amy focused on indices—specifically zero and negative indices—and tackled more complex index problems by reversing steps to find missing values.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lily concentrated on financial mathematics, calculating simple and compound interest scenarios and comparing investment options to strengthen her understanding of real-world money management.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often avoided writing out full solutions in algebra, preferring to "do it in my head," which led to missed sign errors and made it harder to check where mistakes happened.

In a recent Year 11 session, a tutor noted, "she rarely attempted past paper questions at home," meaning unfamiliar question types still caused stress under exam timing.

A Year 4 learner left many fraction problems unfinished because she felt unsure about the steps and didn't refer back to her notes as suggested.

When feedback was offered on trigonometry (Year 10), not all corrections were applied before moving on, so similar misunderstandings reappeared next week.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Revesby noticed a big shift with one high school student who used to stay quiet when confused—now, he actively asks questions and even talks through problems aloud to clarify his thinking.

Another older student made real headway in identifying her own mistakes while solving equations; she was able to spot errors before the tutor stepped in, which hadn't happened previously.

For a younger student, consistent practice with times tables paid off: she's now recalling them quickly without prompts and volunteered to try extra multiplication challenges at the end of her session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Padstow Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Luke's Catholic Primary School.
