Some of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to motivate them to think on their own, build their confidence and create an environment where they are not scared to ask questions. Being able to quickly modify my approach to meet the needs of each student is one of my skills as a tutor because I am aware that not everyone…

I think the most important part is to get to know the student on a personal level, which gauges an idea on their learning style, to which the tutor can model their lessons accordingly. Communicatory skills, knowledge of high school maths and physics…

Keep lessons engaged. Understand the needs of the student. And finally help them realise their passion for a subject. I have been on the receiving end and know exactly the type of challenges a student faces at certain points along a subject or schooling journey. Being able to share my solutions can better equip them to find their…

A tutor's Job is to ensure the academic success of the student, however to do this effectively a tutor must listen and understand the student such to alter their teaching method to suit that of the student. Thus, one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to ask the student appropriate questions to identify what they don't…

My teaching style breaks down complex concepts into simple, bite-sized portions so that students can build strong foundations that they can draw upon to address any problem, regardless of difficulty. Through this, I help students become flexible and develop critical thinking skills, preparing them for exam success. Strong Academic…

The most important thing I can do for a student is to empower them with the skills and confidence to solve problems independently. By teaching critical thinking and problem-solving strategies, I aim to make students self-sufficient learners who can tackle future challenges with ease. I also focus on creating a supportive environment where students…

I believe understanding the students' personal goals, personality and style of learning will allow me to provide them with a supportive learning environment where they are able to comfortably ask questions…

What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student are build self-confidence, without this they will not believe in themselves and their ability, and therefore will not make the improvements they are capable of, inspire them to create their own goals, both long-term and short term, big and small, and of course, help…

I think patience is the most important skill a tutor can have. Some students don't understand a concept right away, I had to have a concept explained to me multiple times before and if the tutor was patient I was not scared to ask. I think as I have been tutored before I knew what worked for me and what didn't so I could apply those ideas. This…

To provide moral support as well as valuable experience. Great study tips and tricks! Strengths - I am good at explaining things - usually in a few different ways too! I can sympathize with my students because I too have been through the joys of school and studies. I enjoy tutoring so I put in 100% of my effort and time. Weaknesses - I have OCD…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to be supportive. Even the students struggling the most always have something they're doing well. The tutors job is to highlight that and develop skills to transfer those proficiencies to other areas of the subject. Furthermore the tutor must be patient. I think the biggest thing a tutor can do for a student is provide confidence. With confidence a student can approach a subject with understanding but also take risks and experiment and question the subject which leads to a better understanding and ultimately a passion for the topic. I believe that a tutor should be extremely cautious in what they say; can everything be supported with a logical statement? Because the steps the tutors take to construct the answer are how the students learn from them, a tutor must prepare well and be confident and knowledgeable of what they are giving to the students. It's not about providing…

Tutoring is very different to a typical classroom setting. Each class is unique and solely focused on the one student. This one-to-one learning experience is something many students wouldn’t normally get in a classroom. Naturally, they’ll be able to ask as many questions as they want. As a result, you’ll feel you’re making a real…

Local Reviews

Great support from the start. Communication is a big thing and we have not been let down
Helen, Revesby Heights

Inside Revesby HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Ethan worked on revising surface area and volume of triangular prisms, practicing examples ahead of a test.

In Year 11, Nahyan focused on calculus, including finding derivatives and identifying maximum and minimum points on graphs using past exam questions.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Lara tackled integration skills by working through areas under curves and between two curves, applying these concepts to recent trial paper problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Mathematics, over-reliance on familiar question types has limited exposure to challenging problems—one tutor observed, "she needs more practice with HSC-style questions to handle time pressure and uncommon scenarios."

Meanwhile, in Year 8 Science, a student struggled to extract key information from sources when writing responses, making it hard to support answers with evidence.

At the primary level, incomplete or unclear written working—such as not copying sums correctly for homework—led to repeated confusion in basic addition and times tables. In these moments, missed steps or avoidance of showing working left gaps that slowed progress and dented confidence during class reviews.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Revesby Heights noticed a big shift for Nahyan, who previously hesitated with integration and trig; now she's independently solving exam-style questions at speed, even choosing new methods to tackle problems on her own.

Christina, in Year 8, used to get stuck drawing diagrams from written trigonometry problems but is now applying strategies she helped develop and attempting more complex geometry tasks without as much guidance.

Meanwhile, Anisa in primary school—who once found fractions overwhelming—recently tackled all her fraction simplification homework by herself and confidently explained each step aloud as she worked.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Padstow Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like De La Salle College, Revesby Heights.
