A tutor is a guide who would be able to give personal learning experience to students which they might not be able to get during a school class. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to imagine herself in the shoes of student and then make learning process easier. Gaining the student's trust and then making student feel…

As I touched on previously, the understanding that each student learns differently is important for ensuring that my tutoring sessions are valid. I believe that the best thing a tutor can do for their students is adapt to the student's unique learning style and ensure that they are not only understanding the concepts, but also enjoying their time…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them reach their personal goals. As a one on one tutor, this means understanding the students personal strengths and weaknesses, and tailoring the lessons to assist them where they need it. I think my strength as a tutor is being able to build rapport and explain…

I think the most important thing a tutor can be is a mentor and a human being. Someone for younger students to look up to and guide but also relate to in other aspects outside of tutoring. I communicate very well and am extremely patient with younger. I'm able to clearly break down problems and can explain concepts very…

Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor creates trust and respect, essential ingredients for students to learn well. I am an expert in Math and Programming and their academic content -- I know the subject's concepts, ideas and problems inside out. I…

The most valuable duty of a tutor is to focus on the holistic development of a student, allowing them to be persistent, independent and problem-solving to tackle any academic or life challenge. I think the best thing a tutor can do is make learning feel achievable. A big part of that is adapting to how each student learns, breaking things down in a way that makes sense to them, and giving them the confidence to tackle challenges on their own. Tutoring isn't just about getting through the syllabus, it's about showing students how to think…

Education is very important in today's societies, many parents hire tutors to help their children catch up or keep up in school subjects where they are having difficulties and have fallen behind their peers. Tutors can help a student in one or many subjects depending upon the child’s needs and the tutor’s expertise. "My strength is my…

To me, the most essential role a tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. I believe a tutor's primary goal should be to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and a resilient problem-solving framework, not only to tackle academic challenges but also to navigate any obstacle life may present. An empowering tutor equips…

I can build my students engagement with and appreciation of the subject (many students find school boring or purposeless and I make a point to spark more joy in learning by integrating key notes of relevance into every lesson). In my opinion, the most important thing is for the tutor to be supportive at every stage. Sometimes all a student needs is that push and confidence boost that helps them achieve their potential. I would like to be that pillar of strength thus helping them make a difference in their life. I am very patient and try to see the problem from the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and create a safe space for the student. When tutors don't listen it'll be a waste of time for both parties. This can be very hard because sometimes students may not be able to pinpoint what they don't understand or they might just feel a bit embarrassed. This is where…

A tutor should support the development of the student, but in the same way do so without making the student over-reliant on the tutor. In this way, the student will be able to maintain their success throughout their whole academic career. They should be patient and willing to explain things from different perspectives, especially if it seems the…

A tutor must always have patience for their students. They cannot rush them, and a student cannot be forced to understand specific content. The most important things that a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, are motivating the students to learn on their own as well as arming them with the tools and study skills. The motivation to learn is critical, since the tutor can teach the material, but at the end of the day, it is the student who has to master it. Without such…

I think it is important to be patient with your students. Some students are slower to learn than others, and others learn things in different ways compared to the rest. Inside RoseberyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Abby focused on measurement, practising area of circles and surface area of solids through school-aligned worksheets.

For Year 10, Sunny worked on graphing functions and was introduced to trigonometry, including proving problems with algebraic exercises.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Nathan revised quadratic equations using the discriminant (delta method) and tackled transformation of parabolas by finding intersections between parabolas and lines.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student sometimes avoided showing working for absolute value problems with multiple absolute signs; as one tutor noted, "she needed help organizing her steps in proving exercises to avoid confusion and hidden errors."

Meanwhile, a Year 9 English learner struggled to expand ideas clearly in creative writing—rushed sentence structure left her responses feeling disjointed under timed conditions.

In Year 7 Maths, careless sample space identification affected conditional probability questions: "sometimes got the sample space wrong," observed the tutor, leading to incorrect answers on card deck tasks. After setbacks, visible frustration lingered during practice sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Rosebery noticed Sunny, a high school student, now sketches function graphs independently—last term she needed constant prompting for each step.

Another Year 10 student, Ismail, has started completing short algebra quizzes within the set time and gets most answers correct; previously he would leave questions unfinished or need hints to continue.

In a recent session with a younger student, their approach to fractions changed: instead of guessing, they worked through improper-to-mixed conversions out loud and checked their own steps before moving on. The session finished with them tackling harder fraction problems without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mascot Library (incl. the George Hanna Memorial Museum)—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gardeners Road Public School.
