I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student go beyond just teaching content. A tutor should help a child feel capable--- when students believe in themselves, everything else becomes easier. It's important to break concepts down simply, meet students where they are, and help them move forward step by step without overwhelm.…

The most important I as a tutor can do is to accept that each student has a different way of learning and I should adapt and blend their teaching methods according to the student, there's no one size fits all method for everyone. It’s not just about teaching the steps to solve a problem, but helping the student truly understand the concept behind it. A good tutor should also be patient, adaptable, and…

First and Foremost, teaching every topic, every concept as clearly as possible and ensuring that the student has actually understood it. A tutor should also ensure that he is giving the student his full and complete attention during a class. I can explain topics very easily and precisely. Listen and teach for the student. If you can't teach in a new way for that student, and you can't recognise that you might not be teaching them in the best way for them, you will most likely fail as a tutor I listen and learn and teach specific to the student. I am patient and I will explore multiple pathways of teaching to ensure the student is…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is aid them in being confident enough to always attempt a problem. A great tutor helps a student to put aside the "oh no, I don't know what to do" thought or feeling and and least try to break the problem into something they do know how to do. My strengths as a tutor come in my genuine passion…

As a tutor, it is your obligation to teach in a way that your pupil develops a passion for the topic he is learning. There is nothing worst than somebody who is bored while learning. Focusing on deeply understanding and on practical application is key to awaken a desire to continue learning. "If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't…

Inside RoseberyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Abby focused on measurement, practising area of circles and surface area of solids through school-aligned worksheets.

For Year 10, Sunny worked on graphing functions and was introduced to trigonometry, including proving problems with algebraic exercises.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Nathan revised quadratic equations using the discriminant (delta method) and tackled transformation of parabolas by finding intersections between parabolas and lines.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student sometimes avoided showing working for absolute value problems with multiple absolute signs; as one tutor noted, "she needed help organizing her steps in proving exercises to avoid confusion and hidden errors."

Meanwhile, a Year 9 English learner struggled to expand ideas clearly in creative writing—rushed sentence structure left her responses feeling disjointed under timed conditions.

In Year 7 Maths, careless sample space identification affected conditional probability questions: "sometimes got the sample space wrong," observed the tutor, leading to incorrect answers on card deck tasks. After setbacks, visible frustration lingered during practice sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Rosebery noticed Sunny, a high school student, now sketches function graphs independently—last term she needed constant prompting for each step.

Another Year 10 student, Ismail, has started completing short algebra quizzes within the set time and gets most answers correct; previously he would leave questions unfinished or need hints to continue.

In a recent session with a younger student, their approach to fractions changed: instead of guessing, they worked through improper-to-mixed conversions out loud and checked their own steps before moving on. The session finished with them tackling harder fraction problems without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mascot Library (incl. the George Hanna Memorial Museum)—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gardeners Road Public School.
