I think the most important a tutor can do for a student is to get to know and read them perfectly. This allows a tutor to know exactly what a student needs to excel, help them set realistic goals and knowing not only when to help but also when not to help, rather letting the student try and solve a complex question themselves without interference.…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is address a students weakens and advise them on how they can improve upon that weakness. For me when I was a student the best thing the teacher could do was give my examples and tons of practice that’s the way I learnt and it worked for me. Working according to the student whatever works for them,…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to try their absolute hardest to teach their student in their field. But equally important to this is to instill good habits onto their student and inspire them to try their best in their studies. I think my strengths as a tutor involve really caring for my student, and as a…

I consider the most important attributes that a tutor can have for a student is the ability to listen, to be patient, and to be able to explain concepts and questions in more ways than one. I personally struggled during my final years of school (11 and 12). Despite the struggles, I applied all my effort and learnt valuable lessons. Through my…

I think the most important things a tutor can do is build understanding, confidence, and independence. First, a tutor should help the student truly understand the material, not just memorise it. That means explaining concepts clearly and making sure they actually make sense. Second, building confidence is key. When students feel supported…

Inside RossmoreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Alex worked on solving two-step linear equations and revising key topics like integers and rational numbers, often using past test questions.

Year 9 student Sarah focused on applying Pythagoras' theorem to measurement problems and calculated area and perimeter of circles with step-by-step practice.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Daniel tackled financial maths concepts, including straight line and reducing balance depreciation methods, by working through real-world calculation examples from his school homework.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often hesitated to ask for help after encountering tricky algebra questions, as one tutor noted: "He tends to fall quiet after reading a tricky question and hesitates before asking for help."

In Year 10 maths, skipping steps and not writing each line of working led to confusion with sign changes, especially in multi-step equations—this made it difficult to trace errors.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner lost focus partway through lessons and sometimes left working messy, which meant time was wasted hunting for mistakes rather than understanding new material.

Recent Achievements

A Rossmore tutoring session saw a Year 9 student finally catching her own errors on a recent maths test—she used to wait for corrections but now reviews answers herself and explains her thinking out loud.

One high schooler has become noticeably more independent, tackling tricky Pythagoras' theorem questions solo and only asking for help after giving each problem a solid try, instead of skipping unfamiliar work.

Meanwhile, in Year 4, a student who used to need prompting is now finishing all his fractions problems neatly and even asks the tutor for harder questions once he's done.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Carnes Hill Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rossmore Public School.
