Showing the student that learning can be very enjoyable and relaxing, particularly when they completely understand the concept a question is asking them to. I like using a variety of different teaching methods, including dynamic graphs, getting students to do the question themselves, proofs, and lots of…

I think the most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is listening to their needs, build positive relationships. I also believe in catering lessons to the students because they retain more information when the content is relevant. Understanding all these things and applying them creates positive relationships students have to…

There a many key things that I believe a biology tutor can do to create a positive impact on their students. One of them I believe is for the tutor to be willing to share their knowledge in any area that the student is struggling with or wants some guidance in. I believe this is crucial as it is one of the main advantages of having a tutor in that…

I find it important for students to know and feel that their individual needs are heard, understood and attended to. It would be most important to follow through all plans, tailored to their needs, with actions that allow the students to realise their progress. By also validating their strengths and identifying their self-limiting beliefs, I…

Extending beyond the scope of just being a biology tutor at set times is key for a student’s confidence and rapport building. Knowing they can contact me outside contact hours for small things here and there encourages them to strive to get the most out of their tutoring experience and get better results, for me, for them and for their parents.…

Study the student and know his or her pros and cons. I would say master the pros whilst teaching the pros. Divide the activities and show the student that learning isn't a burden its much of a relief at the end of the day because goals can be reached easier once you know better. I have done public speaking for as long as I can remember, so theres…

There are a variety of things that makes a biology tutor stand out and become a real teacher. One is to let the student feel comfortable enough for them to ask questions that they might feel is a basic question. Instilling confidence in them to explore without hesitation and fear is important in the students development. This will help them face…

A tutor should be someone who doesn't just blabber information, but a person who ensures they deliver knowledge in a way a student can comprehend easily! But most importantly, the tutor should always make sure the student has understood the concept, always! Being able to adjust your teaching services to cater all types of students, with different…

I think the most important thing is that students are able to recall information because they actually understand what they are being taught and not memorizing concepts just for the sake of it. By doing this, they will automatically improve and maintain good grades. I think my strength is being a student where I can understand the struggles that…

I think the most important thing a biology tutor should do is understand the learning pattern and style of the student. Every student learns differently, simply using one method is not enough. As I try to see, I try to understand how different students learn and understand different content. Through the process, i try to find what is the most…

To be able to display a sense of confidence in the area/subject you are teaching, as students tend to mirror your confidence when learning as well, having a positive impact on their performance and overall wellbeing. Inside RowvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Bridget revised networks and graphs as well as matrices ahead of her SAC, focusing on interpreting network diagrams and matrix operations.

In Year 10, Cailin tackled challenging homework questions involving linear equations and quadratics, working through problem areas from previous assignments for clarity.

For Year 11, Alex reviewed financial mathematics topics like simple and compound interest using real-life scenarios, then practised solving related application problems to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

In order to retain the content, she has to complete the assigned questions. Missing this step meant concepts in matrices and algebra slipped between sessions for the Year 10 student.

In Year 12 Chemistry, difficulty organizing formulas and recalling theory slowed progress on calculation-based tasks; a tutor observed that more work needs to be done to solve for x during problem-solving.

For a Year 7 student, not writing out notes during lessons led to distraction and gaps in understanding application questions.

Forgotten homework or partial revision made consolidating new skills harder each week.

Recent Achievements

One Rowville tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's approach to indices: after struggling to identify which formula to use, she now spots the right method herself and works through examples without hesitation.

In another session with a Year 12 student, the tutor saw genuine progress as Bridget finished most of her SAC preparation on matrices and networks; this time, she didn't just recall formulas but explained why each step mattered.

Meanwhile, a younger student who previously guessed answers during addition practice has started asking for help whenever unsure—last week, she completed all her grouping number questions independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rowville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rowville Primary School.
