Tutors can make the students to understand the topic from the scratch, so as to make sure the kid is able to solve the problems on its own. In this way, student excels in the class at school, and it helps in boosting up the confidence. After working for overall 2 years with kids, I have become really patient and understand and read when and which…

Empathy. Teaching is fundamentally a transfer of knowledge, but that transfer only works if you first understand how the student thinks, where they're stuck, and what's making them anxious or disengaged. A good tutor adapts their explanation to the student's learning style rather than repeating the same approach that didn't work the first time.…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence while helping them truly understand the material. A good tutor should create a supportive environment, adapt to each student's learning style, encourage questions, and inspire independent thinking so students can succeed both academically and beyond the classroom. A good tutor plays a vital role in a student's learning journey by fostering both understanding and confidence. Beyond simply delivering content, an effective tutor identifies the student's strengths and weaknesses, adapts their teaching approach accordingly, and ensures that concepts are truly understood rather than memorized. A tutor can be a role model for the student. Generally students observe character and skills of a tutor and in most cases they try to imitate them. As a tutor we have to be a responsible individual gradually transferring our personality to aspiring students. After all today's students are tommorrow's mentors. I think my determination and my…

I strongly believe that tutor should never give up on any students and respect student's own learning style. Each students has their own learning styles that they are comfortable with, or if they haven't yet developed their own style, it's tutor's duty to let them find their own to maximize each student's potential. With my international…

It would be empathy, in my opinion. I am aware that there are intelligent people who are easily able to surpass me in knowledge, but I believe that to effectively teach and learn, one must have a sufficient level of empathy. As briefly mentioned in the question above, the most important things tutor can do for a student is to not make the experience another class that "drags on". Interacting with the student on a level where he/she can enjoy or be intrigued by the work is essential. To do this, you cannot let the theories from a textbook stay as theories.…

I think a good tutor will be supportive of the student no matter what level they are at. If they get something wrong, always support them to discover the correct answer in a way that will help them learn. Rather than tell them how to do something exactly, help them learn how they can discover the solutions themselves, as someone wont always be…

Try to impart an understanding of the concept, not just how to do some things from memory, this will enable them to work out any question that is thrown at them. Local Reviews

Was so easy to book and arrange, the tutor is consistent, reliable and patient. A great fit for my child.
Lisa, Seddon

Inside SeddonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Mia focused on converting denominators to add and subtract fractions, as well as simplifying fractions for clarity.

In Year 9, Ethan practiced solving algebraic equations for x and reviewed strategies for factorising quadratic equations.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ruby worked through the distributive law of surds in algebra and reinforced her understanding by graphing linear lines using different methods.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion was a barrier for one Year 8 student—"not attempted," the note read, which limited progress with dividing and multiplying by factors of ten.

In Year 9 algebra sessions, working out was sometimes kept in students' heads rather than on paper, so key sign errors or steps were missed ("pen to paper" needed).

A senior student brought neither book nor notes to revision, making it harder to practice manipulating equations and use feedback.

One Year 11 learner hesitated to check work after each step; small mistakes went unnoticed until the end, meaning extra time spent fixing avoidable errors.

Recent Achievements

A Seddon tutor noticed that one Year 11 student, after initially struggling with understanding the inflation formula and the difference between purchasing power and current value, began breaking down complex questions independently and set up a personal study log to track his progress—a big shift from needing step-by-step direction.

Another high school student who previously hesitated to ask for help now initiates discussions about challenging algebraic problems and has started keeping organised notes in a dedicated rules book.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who often guessed spelling is now confidently rewriting definitions and reading them aloud after targeted literacy practice during sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Footscray Mechanics' Institute Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Footscray High School - Pilgrim Campus.
