What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

Seeing the “Lightbulb” Moment The most rewarding part of tutoring is seeing the moment when a student finally understands something that previously seemed impossible. I enjoy breaking complicated ideas into smaller, intuitive steps and helping students see the logic behind the mathematics. Watching Students Become Independent I especially enjoy seeing students progress from asking, “How do I solve this?” to asking, “Why does this method work?” My goal is not simply to help students complete their homework or improve one test result, but to develop the reasoning and confidence they can carry into future subjects and exams. Making Mathematics Less Intimidating Mathematics can become frustrating when students feel that they are falling behind. I enjoy helping students identify exactly where they are struggling, rebuild their foundations and discover that they are capable of much more than they initially thought.

8+ Years of Teaching & Mentoring With over 8 years of experience supporting students across different age groups and learning levels, I focus on making difficult mathematics clear, structured and approachable. As a postgraduate peer tutor at Monash University, I regularly help students work through challenging quantitative concepts and develop stronger problem-solving skills. Personalised & Student-Centred Learning Every student learns differently. I adapt my explanations, pace and teaching strategies to each student’s strengths and areas for improvement. Rather than simply providing answers, I guide students to understand why a method works and how to apply it independently. Building Confidence Through Understanding I believe confidence comes from understanding, not memorising. I create a supportive, judgment-free environment where students can ask questions, make mistakes and gradually develop the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems on their own.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

Teach Students How to Think, Not Just What to Memorise My most important role is to help students develop independent mathematical reasoning. Instead of relying on memorised formulas or copying worked examples, I encourage students to understand the principles behind each problem and recognise how to approach new questions. Identify and Fix the Real Problem When a student struggles with a topic, I first work out where the difficulty comes from. Sometimes the problem is not the current topic but a gap in an earlier concept. By identifying and addressing these gaps, students can build a much stronger foundation. Build Confidence and Independence I want students to eventually feel comfortable solving problems without their tutor beside them. I therefore gradually move from guided practice to independent problem-solving, helping students become more confident, resilient and self-reliant learners.
