Above all else, I believe a tutor should prioritise student wellbeing. Beyond academic achievement, it's essential to foster a sense of belonging, confidence and self-worth in each student. This involves attentive listening, emotional support, and creating a safe, judgement-free space. Additionally, empowering students to take ownership of their…

Ensure that the student is gaining confidence and is improving. I believe its not the final result that counts, but its ensuring the student's mental health is taken care or whilst the student is experiencing a steady improvement. I believe I am a person with strong moral values that can grasp concepts relatively quickly. I also memorise content…

A tutor should also provide a strong foundation to the subjects so that students can build upon this foundation and practice and get better in the future. A tutor should also build good, consistent study habits in the student, and build up the student's…

A good tutor can change the student's mindset and make them better people. Having a good tutor makes the subject automatically interesting and students tend to invest more time and put more effort into it. I am a very patient and dedicated person. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to believe in them. Often, students seek tutoring because they believe they cannot achieve their academic goals, and if that thought persists, it can hinder their ability to perform. Having someone who believes in them helps boost their morale significantly, making them more eager to…

Taking initiative to bring the student out of their comfort zone. In a lot of cases, students fear showing their lack of knowledge, especially in group settings. However, it is important for the tutor to recognize this and invite the student into the circle of discussion and let them contribute. It is crucial to create a safe space that is…

A good tutor should create a comfortable environment where the student should feel free to ask questions, identify gaps in their knowledge, and gradually making students capable of solving problems on their own. Local Reviews

Danni was great and the girls were very happy with her.
Chris, Subiaco

Inside SubiacoTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Sophia worked through division of fractions and simple interest problems, then tackled introductory trigonometry with guided practice.

For Year 10, Ethan completed a review of quadratic functions and practised trig questions from Chapter 11 using diagrams to reinforce concepts.

In Year 11, Chloe focused on dividends and price-earnings ratios in financial maths, also comparing share prices with real-world examples for context.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly avoided writing out working in algebra, which made it hard to catch sign errors—"I suggested she write each step," the tutor noted.

In Year 12 Chemistry, one student struggled with organizing notes and remembering formulas without looking them up, so tests were planned at lesson start to check recall.

A tired Year 9 learner lost focus during revision and gave up on multi-step problems; snack breaks helped regain attention but progress slowed.

Another senior English student skipped practicing timed essays and left homework incomplete, leading to repeated pauses when structuring arguments under pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Subiaco tutor noticed a Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitating to ask for help, started speaking up mid-lesson when she got stuck—making it much easier to clarify tricky algebra steps together.

A Year 12 student who previously mixed up integration techniques is now confidently choosing the right method and can sketch derivatives without prompting, showing real independence in her calculus work.

In a recent session with a Year 4 student, the tutor observed that he's begun using the number line unprompted for negative integers and managed several challenging questions solo by the end of their lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Subiaco Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Subiaco Primary School.
