I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is creating an environment and relationship where the student understands and feels comfortable knowing that it is okay not to understand something and it is ok to ask for, or need help. I believe that still being a student myself allows me to relate to students and the frustrations…

To give the student the tools they need to be able to improve on their own, and to help them pinpoint the areas they are weaker in. Helping a student understand questions and teaching them how to approach different styles of questions is also key for improvement. The important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them feel more confident about their abilities and knowledge. The more they can back them-self, the more they can be composed in a test environment, the better they perform in test conditions, the better their marks. Impart upon a student not knowledge per se, but rather a desire to expand their own knowledge through self-directed learning. Learning and education should be a lifelong process, not one that ends when an individual completes their primary vocational education. Learning makes us grow and develop and look at things in different ways, and the desire…

I believe explaining a concept in such a way that the student understands it intuitively and can thus use that understanding to solve different problems, rather than simply rote-learning a series of facts, is an incredibly important part of being a tutor. The tutor should be adding to a student's toolkit such that they can solve a variety of…

I think that as a tutor, we should be different from teachers at school. We should provide extra care to their needs and catering to what areas of a particular topic they are struggling with, in order for them to improve. Therefore, I think that conducting a personalized teaching plan for the students to observe and explore what methods they can…

Local Reviews

Danni was great and the girls were very happy with her.
Chris, Subiaco

Inside SubiacoTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Sophia worked through division of fractions and simple interest problems, then tackled introductory trigonometry with guided practice.

For Year 10, Ethan completed a review of quadratic functions and practised trig questions from Chapter 11 using diagrams to reinforce concepts.

In Year 11, Chloe focused on dividends and price-earnings ratios in financial maths, also comparing share prices with real-world examples for context.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly avoided writing out working in algebra, which made it hard to catch sign errors—"I suggested she write each step," the tutor noted.

In Year 12 Chemistry, one student struggled with organizing notes and remembering formulas without looking them up, so tests were planned at lesson start to check recall.

A tired Year 9 learner lost focus during revision and gave up on multi-step problems; snack breaks helped regain attention but progress slowed.

Another senior English student skipped practicing timed essays and left homework incomplete, leading to repeated pauses when structuring arguments under pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Subiaco tutor noticed a Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitating to ask for help, started speaking up mid-lesson when she got stuck—making it much easier to clarify tricky algebra steps together.

A Year 12 student who previously mixed up integration techniques is now confidently choosing the right method and can sketch derivatives without prompting, showing real independence in her calculus work.

In a recent session with a Year 4 student, the tutor observed that he's begun using the number line unprompted for negative integers and managed several challenging questions solo by the end of their lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Subiaco Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Subiaco Primary School.
