The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to give them one-on-one attention which allows for a better understanding of the individual student and what learning methods work for them. By working on their study, it helps them go at their pace and gives them more confidence in the classroom. I think my strengths are in creativity,…

Encourage them to pursue their dreams. Teach them to be lifelong learners. I believe you have completely understood the concept when you can simplify it entirely. So, the student should totally grasp the concepts at hand. A tutor can help the student realize their passions, and help them achieve it. Making the students interested in the subject by…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build trust, encourage genuine confidence, and teach students how to learn independently. It's not just about helping them get through one subject or assignment, it's about giving them the skills and self-belief they can carry with them into everything else they do. I think my main strengths…

Over the years, I have developed the opinion that the teaching of transferable skills - contrary to only what is needed at the moment - is most valuable for the student’s future development. It is important to see that just completing the mandatory homework will not suffice, the real challenge is to change the mindset. As a good tutor, one has…

Motivation and confidence are two key elements of student success, if I can support them in achieving a sense of self-efficacy regarding these elements, they are bound to see improvement. Students often know where they fall short in their work, they just need motivation to improve those areas. Once they know that they can achieve this themselves,…

I consider that the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to make them feel confident going to class every day and not feel that they are behind their class as well as look forward to an exam to share all of their knowledge with the markers rather than dread an exam, also reducing their stress and encouraging them to enjoy school.…

The most important aspect I believe a tutor can do for a student, is to have adaptable lessons individualised for each student. As children have different learning styles and requirements, I believe a flexible learning plan allows for a positive and motivated learning environment. The most important thing that a tutor can do at first, is build a rapport and a relationship of trust. In order to connect with a student, a tutor must be able to forge a strong connection that is much the same as a mentor to a younger generation. Further from this, a tutor must be able to assess the genuine ability of a student - this is crucial,…

I consider above all listening to the student and what they do and don't understand to be most important, in order so that I as a tutor can direct my attention and teaching where it is needed most. In terms of long-term goals however, I consider instilling the student with diligence, resilience and a mentality to succeed in the future to be the…

For me, the most important thing that a tutor can do is to develop students' confidence and ability in their studies. By working with a student personally by meeting them where they are at in their abilities, a student's academic confidence can grow as they are able to focus on areas of their work that they specifically struggle with. I think this…

Tutoring can be challenging, especially when it comes to motivating your learner. You see the potential they have, and they often hear about the potential they have, but they do not feel as though they got what it takes. Living in such a busy and demanding time can often make us feel the time constraints on everything we do and we expect our…

As a tutor cannot take exams or do homework for the student, the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to have faith in the student's ability and assist the student in every way possible to ensure that the student has faith in their own ability to achieve their goals. Instill a deeper understanding and appreciation of the subject. Those are the foundations upon which the rest is built. Strengths: I love kids and I love maths. The fun part of my job is getting to know my students and getting to understand them. As a tutor and mentor it is our job to make sure our students achieves the highest grade possible, but we must remember. It is also our duty to nurture and guide them on the right path into their future. We must keep in mind each students have their own struggles…

Inside SydneyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student worked on addition and subtraction strategies, using number lines to visualise solutions.

In Year 10, Olivia focused on advanced trigonometry by reviewing her recent test and then tackled polynomials from chapter 22b.1.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student spent the session revising circle geometry concepts and began preparing for upcoming exam questions by applying key theorems to practice problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student had to revisit the logs chapter quickly due to time pressure, which meant gaps in understanding persisted into revision.

In Year 8 algebra, a reluctance to show working made it hard for her tutor to spot where negatives and positives went astray—she skipped showing steps in rearranging equations, so errors stayed hidden.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student struggled with concentration during worded problems and left several questions unfinished.

For a senior English task, one student avoided linking evidence back to topic sentences, leading to half-complete assignments that missed out on marks for structure and clarity.

Recent Achievements

One Sydney tutor noticed a Year 11 student who, after weeks of needing reminders, now double-checks her answers independently and has cut down on careless mistakes.

In Year 9, a previously hesitant student is starting to tackle circle geometry questions solo—last session she completed two problem sets without asking for help.

From the younger years, a Year 3 child who struggled with reading aloud managed to read an entire short paragraph and explain its meaning in her own words by the end of their latest session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as State Library of NSW—or at your child's school (with permission), like Macquarie Grammar School.
