Personally, I think the role of a tutor is to help student with what they need, thus we can assist them in the most effective way. For example, a tutor can figure out the weakness of a student thus the tutor can assist student to get improvement on that areas. Currently, I am doing Bachelor of Education in Usyd, After 1 year of study, I developed…

A tutor's role extends beyond the lessons and hopefully inspires a student to realise their passion and love for their subjects and learning through establishing and maintaining a supportive teaching environment. A tutor's most important role is to assist students with academic success strategies and teaching them life lessons, whilst also…

To company the students and encourage them to be calm, brave, diligent and curious. A tutor should be there when his or her student needs help or company. Moreover, not only should a tutor help get the students prepared for the coming exams, but also encourage them to learn and explore. Patience and communication skills. As one grew up in a…

Allow students to investigate something they cannot find without a tutor, this includes bringing new ideas and thoughts to students. Learning the methods not the question. I enjoyed teaching others and through out my teaching experience with my friends I gain a lot of experience on how to teach in a way that makes complex ideas easily understood.…

I consider the tutor's ability to empower the students to face and share the problems which they are not comfortable with as one of the most important things. I am bilingual (Mandarin and English) and due to the fact I am a current student, I am able to empathise with students as they are approaching new areas of…

A tutor should not pressure students or else they may under perform. But instead with patience and acknowledging their flaws, one should be considerate with their skills levels and not force them too hard. Every student learns differently, so adapting methods to fit their strengths and preferences makes a big difference in effectiveness. I think I…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to create a engaging, supportive and enjoyable learning environment. From my own experience as a student who has received tutoring, I’ve found that students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and aren’t afraid to make mistakes. Tutoring can be a very…

The most important things that a tutor can build a personal and strong relationship with their students. Helping them with their learning progress not just only helping them doing their homework. Communication skills also play an important role, by communicating with their parents or guardian how to help the students in their learning process I…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are spark the student’s interest in the subject, explain concepts clearly when something doesn’t make sense, and help remove the fear of making mistakes. When students see that learning is a process of trying, experimenting and eventually finding the answer, they become more confident and open…

To help them understand the knowledge itself, instead of get high scores by constantly doing different types of questions. Truely understanding of knowledge is more efficient than practicing problem solving. I am very patient, when student cannot understand what I am saying, I will think of another way to explain it. And I am good at discovering…

The establishment of mathematical thinking is the most important thing, because mathematics is the foundation of all science and engineering subjects and even business studies. Inside Sydney Olympic ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student completed a Maths Olympiad worksheet and workbook activities focusing on addition and subtraction with two- to four-digit numbers, as well as starting multiplication with larger numbers.

Year 9 student Alyssa tackled direct variation in linear relationships and practiced rearranging formulas for simple interest calculations using real-life examples.

For Year 12, David worked through differentiation techniques including the product and quotient rules, and was introduced to inverse trigonometric functions such as arcsin(x) and arccos(x).

Recent Challenges

A Year 3 student often hesitated when writing out division steps, preferring to "do it in his mind," which led to misaligned digits and confusion about which number belonged above the line—"he needs to write every step," noted one tutor.

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student avoided writing full working for induction proofs and struggled with linking nk and nk+1, causing repeated errors in logical progression.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 student's revision focused only on familiar trigonometric formulas, leaving gaps when tackling exam questions that required lesser-known identities or domains. This resulted in uncertainty during multi-step problems and slowed progress under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Sydney Olympic Park noticed that one Year 11 student who previously hesitated to ask for clarification now regularly voices questions about tricky derivatives, especially when working with inverse trigonometric functions—a real shift from staying silent and guessing.

In another high school session, a student managed to identify the critical path in a complex network diagram after struggling to visualise connections just weeks ago.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who often made errors with subtraction recently completed an entire quiz on addition and subtraction without a single mistake and even tackled some harder problems by choice.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lidcombe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Newington Public School.
