For me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to become a perfect role model for the students; someone who the student can look up to, live with their skills and guidance, someone who they can trust and rely when they face problems. For me personally, a role of a tutor is not just ensuring good grades for the students but rather…

Monitor student's progress and adjust my teaching style and lesson plans accordingly. It is important as a tutor to understand that everyone learns at a different pace and therefore it is integral to treat every student as an individual. I believe the most important role of a tutor is to build both understanding and confidence. A tutor should create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, while also providing clear structure and guidance. Equally important is helping students develop strong problem-solving skills rather than just teaching them…

The most important thing i can do as a tutor is make them realise that math is not hard, but pretty easy if done with constant practice. I want them to view maths more like a skill they can master, instead of an obstacle. My strengths as a tutor primarily consists of two things: ability to breakdown high-level problems into "easy to understand"…

I think the most important thing a teacher can do is really notice the student; not just notice their grades but also notice when they’re struggling, when they have potential they can’t yet recognize themselves, or when they need encouragement rather than explanations. I also believe in the theory that practice makes perfect; which is why I…

The most important thing a tutor can do is build trust and create a safe space where students feel confident to ask, share, and explore. Once that trust is there, it becomes much easier to guide them, inspire curiosity, and help them believe in themselves. I want the students to be confident and build their self-esteem. My strengths as a tutor…

A tutor must be able to secure a positive impression of the subject in the student's mind, regardless of how arduous the subject content might be. A tutor is a third parent and must have immense patience to ensure that the child grasps each and every detail, even if they ask us to repeat what we taught. Besides, as tutors, we must always advocate…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel supported and confident. A lot of students actually understand more than they think, but they might be anxious, unsure, or afraid of making mistakes. A good tutor will work themselves out of a job. This is because a good tutor will not only teach the student the content but also how to learn. Therefore the student will be able to become independent of the tutor and then be able to teach other students. I am able to explain concepts clearly and concisely in a number of different ways. Thereby…

Inside TravancoreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Max focused on multiplying and dividing mixed numbers, converting between improper fractions and decimals, and practised placing decimal points accurately during operations.

In Year 8, Lola tackled triangle side length and angle problems using trigonometric formulae like arcsin, as well as analysing literary themes and preparing essay arguments for her assessment on Brave New World.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Max reviewed substitution into graph formulae, worked through coordinate geometry questions involving negative number laws and exponentials, and reinforced his understanding by reading textbook problems aloud.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student often skipped back-checking their work on fractions and division, leading to repeated errors—he tries to add and subtract denominators, as he always forgets to first find a common denominator.

In VCE Chemistry, exam revision was left until the last minute, causing stress and limited time for consolidation.

Meanwhile, in Year 10 English, another student hesitated to express opinions in essays and defaulted to quoting texts instead of expanding on their own ideas. This pattern resulted in less developed arguments during class discussions and slower essay planning under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Travancore noticed Violet, a senior student, has started coming to each session with her own targeted questions and is now quick to ask for clarification when she's unsure—something she hesitated to do before.

In Year 9 maths, Max showed new independence by reading content himself first and diving straight into homework without prompting, which made the lesson more productive than usual.

For a younger student, Matthew breezed through a reading comprehension task that used to slow him down, showing how his practice is making these activities much smoother.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Flemington Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Flemington Primary School.
