What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
I enjoy the moment when a student finally understands a concept they were struggling with. It is incredibly rewarding to see their face light up with excitement and confidence as they grasp something new. For example, one of my students at chess coaching was constantly struggling with some topics. After working through numerous practice scenarios, she had an "aha" moment and was able to do them on her own. The joy and pride she expressed in that moment made all the hard work worth it. I also enjoy building positive relationships with my students and seeing their confidence grow over time.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
My greatest strength as a tutor is the ability to adapt the teaching style to meet the studentβs individual needs. I am patient, empathetic, and able to break down complex concepts into simpler, more digestible pieces. For instance, I had a student who was struggling to understand the key words and concepts in chess. To make it interesting and easy, I related the chess pieces to various animals as the child loved animals, sparking enormous and unexpected curiosity. I have stronger communication skills and a passion for lifelong learning, helping me instill enthusiasm for education in students.
Most important things I can do for a student π
The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment by building trust, setting clear expectations, providing feedback and offering personalized guidance. I opine a good tutor should not only help improving academic performance but also boost their self-confidence and motivation. My school experiences showed me the importance of a motivating teacher in bringing out oneβs full potential. In Year 11, despite being away from school for 6 months due to a medical issue, my chemistry teacher helped me to cover up and excel in my exams.
