What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Working with Kumon tutoring and also having done practicals at university; one of the most rewarding parts of the job is seeing kids be able to achieve, especially on a topic they may have been struggling with for a while. I've seen kids who were adamant that they'd never be able to understand something, or be able to work on it independently, grow confident and even enjoy the topic they may have initially struggled with. Knowing that I had a direct impact in their confidence, is the most rewarding and enjoyable aspect of the job.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
A strength that I found that students appreciate is honesty. If there are topics that I may not be as knowledgeable in, it is okay to be transparent with the students in saying that I will need to look into the problem and get back to them. I found that students also grow more respectful of you when you are honest with questions you can't answer, and it builds confidence in myself that I can give them the answer the students deserve, but also further builds trust. Another strength I have is my ability to look for other options, not all students learn the same way and will need different option
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
There are many different ways that a student can learn, and there may also be different contexts as to why a student may be struggling to understand a concept or a topic. As a tutor, the most important thing you can do is to build a relationship and build the trust to understand their strengths, weaknesses, and any barriers they may be facing. Without building this trust, a student is less likely to be honest about what and why they may not be as confident with certain topics. However, it is important that as a tutor you don't push students to open up to you, and to build a safe environment.
