What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
I most enjoy enabling students to overcome their difficulties with foundational concepts in order to truly see the enjoyment in mastering a complex subject, as this is what tutoring accomplished for me as a high school student. I genuinely believe there is so much value and fun in learning new things, but the joy that stems from education can only be found when your foundational knowledge is well-taught and well maintained.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
I believe my experience with the HSC will empower me to be an efficient tutor as I remember very clearly that it took a precisely formulated approach with a balanced approach of theory and practice to achieve as highly as I did. I know exactly how a struggling student can be uplifted by a dedicated and knowledgable tutor and taught to succeed, because I was that student. I have retained all my self-made study guides, detailed notes, and compilations and practice questions that would enable me to direct a student through their exam preparation effectively.
Most important things I can do for a student π
I believe a truly effective tutor can accurately pinpoint the source of a student's struggle with a particular topic, and propose the correct solution. For example, trouble with foundational concepts often stems from a fundamental misunderstanding of the basics, therefore it is important to readdress the theory portion of the topic and provide detailed explanations, using tools such as diagrams or mnemonic devices to ensure information retention. Comparatively, a student may know the fundamentals well but has trouble applying them, which is a problem solved through extensive practice together.
