What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
The thing I enjoy most about tutoring is watching the student grow academically and holistically as a person. I find it rewarding and meaningful when I see that I have been able to make a positive impact on someoneβs learning journey.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
One of my strengths as a tutor is that I am a really good listener and I am willing to listen to what the student struggles with and try my best to help them with their learning. I also am very patient and encouraging which helps students to feel comfortable asking questions and build their confidence over time. I am also adaptable and able to change the way I teach or explain concepts so the student is able to understand.
Most important things I can do for a student π
I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build a strong relationship with them so they can feel comfortable asking for help, making mistakes and being honest about what they donβt understand. I think it is also very important for the student to know that if they ever have any difficulties they will be able to receive support from their tutor at any time. I think building trust and rapport is also very important since it creates a safe and supportive environment for the student.

Lucy did quite well with spelling. She improved from last week and was able to identify how to spell more words. Lucy also engaged effectively with some problem solving questions we went over in the diagnostic assessment. She demonstrated a clear understanding of which operations to use and applied them accurately to the relevant numbers.
We will continue practising more long division questions in the next lesson to build confidence and accuracy. Additionally we will focus on improving spelling for more challenging words, particularly those that are trickier to sound out.

Yasmin is a very fluent and confident reader. She read both texts from the reading comprehension very well and was able to pronounce quite challenging words! She was able to answer most of the multiple-choice questions confidently and independently, demonstrating a strong understanding of what she read. Yasmin is also a very motivated and hard-working student.
For our next lesson, we can focus on multiplying fractions to strengthen Yasmin's confidence in this area. We can also work on breaking down long, worded math problems together, so she can identify which operations to use and make approaching each question easier.

Lucy did very well in her 6 and 7 multiplication timetables and completed the lines of symmetry and successors worksheet quickly and accurately, only making two small errors which she corrected. She also showed strong understanding in the spelling worksheet, successfully identifying the correct spellings.
Lucy would benefit from building more confidence in her abilities. In the next session we can also focus on some strategies to improve her spelling, particularly in remembering the silent e at the end of some words such as difference, queue and tongue.

Mia was able to solve most of the questions in the detective activity quite quickly particularly those involving percentages, decimals and indices. She also approached a probability question very well.
There are a few areas that we can focus on in future sessions. These include algebra and equations involving solving variables (e.g. solving for x). We could also work on integers as Mia would sometimes get mixed up with operations like -7+1. Additionally, we can work further on worded problems involving fractions to strengthen her problem solving skills and confidence.
