What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing students change how they feel about maths.
The most rewarding moment for me was when parents told me their child used to hate maths, but started to enjoy it because they liked my lessons and felt more confident.
That’s when I feel my teaching really makes a difference.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I think one of my strengths is having a strong academic background, which helps me explain concepts clearly. I achieved A* in Maths and Further Maths in A-levels, and I currently have a WAM above 80 at UNSW.
I also have quite a lot of tutoring experience. I started as a volunteer in maths help sessions in Year 11, and continued tutoring part-time after starting university, so I’m comfortable working with different students.
Lastly, I’m quite outgoing and approachable, which makes it easier for students to ask questions and feel relaxed during lessons.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important thing a tutor can do is understand each student’s needs and adjust the lessons accordingly.
I also think clear communication with parents is important. Regular feedback helps everyone stay aligned and makes sure the student is getting the most effective support.

About Ruotian
Maths tutor with strong academic background
Ruotian is a high-achieving Computer Science and Economics student with a strong foundation in problem solving and logical thinking, ideal for supporting primary and early high school maths. Her studies require precise reasoning, clear written work and careful checking of solutions, which she brings directly into her tutoring. Comfortable explaining ideas in both English and Mandarin, she can adjust her communication style so students really understand concepts, not just memorise steps.
Proven experience teaching Year 4 mathematics
This tutor has hands-on experience teaching Year 4 mathematics both online and in person, giving her a clear understanding of the curriculum and the common sticking points for younger learners. She has previously provided regular feedback to parents, explaining progress in plain language and suggesting specific practice areas. In lessons, she uses worked examples and step-by-step reasoning, helping students gain confidence with number operations, word problems and basic geometry.
Patient, structured and tech-savvy approach
Ruotian combines a calm, patient manner with a structured approach to each session, often breaking bigger topics into small, achievable goals. Her background in data-focused work means she is comfortable tracking a student’s performance over time and adjusting lesson plans accordingly. She uses tools such as spreadsheets and presentations to create simple revision sheets and visual explanations, and is happy to share short practice tasks after lessons so students can consolidate what they’ve learned.
