What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I love when kids are able to put their trust in me and understand topics they couldn’t before, and begin to see them get more confident with their ability in the subject as I guide them along the process.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I think I’m a patient tutor. I think that mistakes are an inherent part to learning so understanding why mistakes are made and working past them in a calm, encouraging way is something I am good at. I also would say that I am good at adapting to a student’s level or speed at a subject and I’m able to see what they need and match it.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to improve their confidence in their own ability. Especially in weaker students, being able to increase their confidence through encouragement and improvement also enables a pathway into enjoying the subject more and therefore putting in more effort, initiating a postive feedback loop. Another important thing that tutors can do is keeping students motivated, as a lot of the time students become demotivated when having to handle a challenging topic by themselves, but providing a encouraging tutor can build motivation.

About Bernice

Experienced Primary Maths Tutor Focused on Results

Bernice is an experienced primary maths tutor who has worked both onetoone and with small classes of 10–15 students in the later primary years. She has helped Year 5 students prepare for selective school entry, guiding them through problemsolving strategies, examstyle questions and time management. This tutor explains concepts in clear, stepbystep language and checks understanding with practical examples, so children don’t just memorise methods but actually understand why they work.

Clear Communicator with a Pathway into Speech Pathology

Heading into a degree in speech pathology, Bernice brings a strong interest in how students think, learn and communicate. She uses simple language, visual layouts and lots of worked examples to make tricky ideas feel approachable, especially for students who lack confidence. Fluent in both English and Mandarin, she can support bilingual families and is comfortable breaking down maths terminology so that students can explain solutions in their own words.

Patient, Organised and Engaging with Young Learners

With regular weekend tutoring experience, Bernice is used to planning structured yet engaging lessons that keep primary students focused. She draws on her background in customerfacing roles to build rapport quickly, encourage shy learners and manage group dynamics calmly. This tutor prepares targeted practice sheets, tracks each child’s progress and adjusts the difficulty as they improve, creating a supportive environment where students feel safe to ask questions and proud of their progress.
