What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I am someone who really enjoys learning and being able to share my knowledge with others. I like working with younger people, in particular working with younger women/girls within STEM fields. As a young girl who loved maths and science, I wish I had someone encourage me to excel in these fields and through tutoring I want to be able to do that for younger people.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
In my university studies (Masters of Chemical Engineering and Bachelor of Science), I have developed strong academic skills and knowledge in chemistry, maths and biology.
Whilst I do not have commercial tutoring experience, I have experience working as a as a swim coach and supervisor (4 years) with children aged 3 to 17 years of varying skill levels. This work required clear communication, patience, developing and structuring lesson plans and adjusting teaching styles to suit students.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
As a tutor, I think it is so important to listen to the student. If a student is not understanding something, you have to listen and adjust your teaching style. If you have explained something the same way multiple times and it hasn't worked then it is not the students fault for not understanding, as a tutor it is your job to listen and figure out a different way to teach. This is also where patience comes in, a tutor that is inpatient with the student will only harm the students experience of learning and potentially damage their self-confidence with the subject.
