What do I enjoy most about tutoring? ๐Ÿ˜

I havenโ€™t yet had in experience in tutoring however I currently work as an SLSO at a high school and thoroughly enjoy supporting and working with students in various subjects.

My Strengths as Tutor ๐Ÿ’ช

I am patient, kind and enthusiastic. I feel as though I enjoy helping kids and seek the best for them academically and emotionally.

Most important things I can do for a student ๐Ÿ…

As said previously, it is important to support a student academically and aim to encourage them to reach their full potential. However it is also important to create a safe and supportive environment where they will thrive and hopefully enjoy coming to tutoring. Positive reinforcement and targeted support are just examples of ways to acknowledge the targeted needs of each individual student.

About Jemma

Learning Support Experience with Diverse Learners

Jemma currently works as a learning support aide, giving one-on-one help to students with additional learning needs in reading and maths. She adapts explanations, breaks tasks into manageable steps, and uses behaviour strategies to keep students calm and focused. This tutor is used to collaborating with classroom teachers and following individual learning plans, so she can smoothly align tutoring with what your child is doing at school. Her day-to-day work with varied abilities makes her particularly skilled at spotting gaps and building confidence from there.

Future Secondary Teacher with Strong Education Focus

Jemma is studying a Bachelor of Secondary Education, giving her a solid grounding in how students learn, how to structure lessons, and how to assess progress. She brings this training into tutoring by setting clear goals, using simple check-ins to track understanding, and adjusting her approach when something isnโ€™t clicking. Because she is training to be a teacher, she understands curriculum expectations and can support students to meet them, especially in core literacy and numeracy skills.

Calm, Approachable and Clear Communicator

Known for her positive attitude and respectful manner, Jemma builds strong rapport with students who may feel anxious or discouraged about schoolwork. She has developed practical behaviour management techniques in the classroom, such as using clear routines and gentle prompts, which she adapts to tutoring sessions to keep students on task without pressure. This tutorโ€™s clear communication and patient style help students feel comfortable asking questions, making it easier to turn tricky reading and maths concepts into achievable steps.
