No one has doubts about the importance of English in the Australian school curriculum. Not only is it a mandatory subject to complete year 12, but it's a useful life skill. Verbal and written language skills are crucial in the information age. Comprehending texts, textual analysis, structuring written reports, refining creative processes and applying a structure to them, articulating thoughts concisely ... these skills are going to be useful in just about any career path. The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
All of Bree's basic strategies such as talking aloud and pen to paper are really good. She does fairly well with backchecking her work but I make sure I keep reminding her about it often, as we have discovered that this can be where she loses marks in tests. Her confidence has been increasing - I particularly noticed this week when we were reviewing concepts for a test that she was quite confident in remembering what she had learnt.
I am pleased with Ethan's effort during tutorials. Some of the problems that we have covered have been tricky from the perspective of understanding how to proceed (e.g. "Prove this geometric identity..."). Ethan's effort during tutorials continues to be of a high standard. As mentioned previously, I would like to see Ethan improve his note taking and format skills. It is important to develop good habits in these areas now.
He lacks in comprehending the steps to take when we are spelling new words which part due to his weak grasp on phonics. His maths is coming along fine calculating multiples with ease. His problem areas isn't in his knowledge but in his execution. He often skips of steps or forgets something which like James results in having to start over again
So far so good with Tim. Tim is now tutoring both my kids and both are really happy with him. Results will show in the months to come. It is early days but we are very happy so far.
Michael has really enjoyed having Raj come as his tutor. In fact he also managed to get 80% on his last algebra test at school. It has really empowered him to want to do well in maths and he looks forward to his tutoring session each week. We look forward to seeing him continue on his maths journey throughout the year. Many thanks Ps. I have referred a few of my friends onto your website as their kids were having difficulty too!!!
Sounds like Alex is doing a great job. I've spoken to Quyen and she is very happy with the tutoring sessions.
