While his mental calculation skills are strong, this can occasionally slow down his problem-solving process. Developing the habit of clearly writing out his working could help him solve questions more efficiently and reduce the chance of making avoidable mistakes.

This may be slightly more advanced than what is typically expected of a Year 5 student, but I believe it is a valuable habit to develop early and will benefit him in the future.
