What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
I enjoy the moment a student realises that a question they thought was beyond them is actually within reach. In senior maths, it is easy to work hard but feel stuck. I find it rewarding to help students see what needs to change, practise with a clear purpose, and build confidence as they start solving questions independently. Having recently completed the HSC myself, I can relate to the pressure and uncertainty students face.My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
My strength is helping students turn their understanding into exam marks. Having achieved 98/100 in both HSC Maths Extension 1 and Extension 2, I understand the demands of senior maths and how to prepare effectively. I break difficult questions into manageable steps, identify where students lose marks, and target the gaps holding them back. The most important thing I can do is identify what is holding a student back and give them a clear path forward. That might mean rebuilding a foundational concept, learning how to start unfamiliar questions, or improving accuracy and timing under exam conditions. I want students to leave each lesson knowing what they have learnt, what to practise next, and how to check their own work. Akshay is a high-achieving mathematics student currently studying advanced mathematics and computer science, with top-band results across all his senior subjects and more than 90% in his highest-level maths courses. Believer in the 80/20 principle - strong results / balanced life
My goal isn't to turn students into nerds who study 10 hours a day and have no life outside school. It's to help them get excellent marks AND have a life. During my HSC, I went to the gym six days a week, had an active social life and achieved a 99.40 ATAR, with 98 in both Extension 1 and Extension 2 maths. I'm a big believer in the 80/20 principle: the idea that roughly 80% of your results come from 20% of your effort. For studying, that means figuring out which work actually improves your marks and doing more of it, whilst cutting out the 20%. I help students spot the gaps costing them marks, focus on the concepts that unlock lots of questions, and stop repeating things they already know. The goal isn't to be a nerd studying 10 hours a day. It's to get excellent grades and still have time for the gym, friends and a life outside school.
More Than Maths - general life advice, balancing time, etc
Sometimes you need someone to explain a maths question. Sometimes you need someone to talk through βWhat degree should I do?β or βHow do I fit all this study in and still get to the gym?β I'm 19, studying maths and computer science at UNSW, and figuring out my own path towards quantitative finance or another ambitious corporate career. I won't pretend to have every answer, but I can share what I've learnt, what I'm trying and what I wish I'd known at school. I want to be the tutor students can actually talk to - about maths, juggling their other subjects, university and what comes next.
