What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy helping students find their 'lightbulb' moment. Subjects like maths can be frustrating if you don't get the answer first time. I like helping students find different methods to complete questions that suit their learning methods. It's a great feeling when a child says "maths actually doesn't suck.", and it's great to know I helped them get to that point.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
As an approachable and friendly tutor, I am patient and good at finding alternative ways to explain a concept if a student is confused. I really enjoy the subject and am creative, often finding more engaging ways to cover content. For example, using techniques like gamification to prove to students maths isn't as boring as they think.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think it's important to listen to the student and pause where needed. I recognise that sometimes it's not about covering all of the planned content, but really going into detail over the important concepts so they can apply it in different situations. I also think it's important for a tutor to be able to adapt to each child's needs. It's a unique opportunity to tailor your teaching to individuals, rather than a class, and finding out their preferred learning techniques is a great way to value their time and help them get the most out of the lesson.
