What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most is making a genuine impact on students and seeing it pay off. Having benefitted from tutoring myself, I understand how much a tutor who explains things clearly and patiently can change a student's trajectory and that's the standard I hold myself to. The most rewarding moments at Aims High Academy were when students came back to tell me they'd gotten into their dream selective school. Knowing my teaching contributed to that is what drives me, and it's why I want to keep providing that kind of value through education.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My biggest strength is communication as i am able to explain the same concept in different ways until it clicks for each student. Maths especially has a lot of moments where one explanation won't land but a different approach will, and I've gotten good at reading when to switch. I also give detailed, specific feedback rather than just marking something wrong as I think students learn more when they understand exactly where their reasoning broke down. I always prioritise being approachable so students feel comfortable saying when they're lost, because that's when you can actually help them.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important process is ensuring students genuinely understand the material rather than just memorising steps; especially in maths, where weak foundational knowledge generates problems down the line. As such, identifying gaps in knowledge early before they compound is an important quality of a tutor. I also think building confidence matters just as much as teaching content. A lot of students who struggle with maths have a mental block more than an ability gap. As such it is essential a tutor is approachable so students feel comfortable saying when they're lost.
