I believe tutor should share their experience with their students. As someone who has walked in their shoes, tutors should be able to share new knowledges and experiences, something that a teacher wouldn’t be able to sympathise with. Therefore, besides teaching them facts about a specific topics, tutors should go above and beyond, providing…

Inside SpringvaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Zara worked on trigonometric ratios and similar triangles, using diagrams to solve for unknowns and apply similarity rules.

Year 10 student Jamie focused on consolidating knowledge of compound interest through textbook questions and tackled worded problems involving sales commissions and tax brackets.

For a younger learner in Year 6, Alex practised converting fractions to percentages as well as finding the percentage of a given amount within financial maths.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Chemistry, a student's lab report writing was described as "a little hard to interpret at times," with formatting making conclusions unclear. In the same subject, short-answer exam sections moved slowly and explanations lacked precision—this left less time for extended responses under test conditions.

A Year 9 Maths student repeatedly relied on a calculator for division and multiplication ("she currently solely does long division"), which slowed problem-solving and blocked quick mental checks during class quizzes.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner often forgot materials like pencils and worksheets, making it harder to participate in hands-on tasks or follow along during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Springvale tutor noted a Year 11 student who used to get stuck on redox equations is now independently balancing full redox reactions and double-checking with oxidation numbers—something he previously found confusing.

Another high school student has shifted from silent guessing to actively talking through her approach on short-answer chemistry questions, clearly outlining her reasoning as she works.

Meanwhile, in Year 4, a student who was hesitant about adding large numbers is now confidently using his fingers to add four-digit numbers without prompting, finishing problems that would have stalled him before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dingley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Springvale Rise Primary School-Springvale Road Campus.
