What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I enjoy helping students gain a deeper understanding of concepts and develop genuine interest and confidence in a subject. Seeing a student progress from feeling confused to understanding a topic is incredibly rewarding. I also find great satisfaction in helping others, so being able to play a meaningful role in a student's learning and growth is something I truly enjoy.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I am patient and sympathetic, as I understand what it is like to struggle with a subject and feel frustrated by difficult concepts. I strive to be approachable and relatable rather than intimidating, creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I have found that building genuine connections with students increases their confidence and engagement, leading to a high willingness to learn.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

The most important things I can do for a student are to build their confidence in their own abilities and help them develop a strong conceptual understanding of the subject. Once students truly understand the underlying concepts, they are better able to apply their knowledge rather than relying solely on memorisation.

About Yuankai

Background

Born in China and raised in New Zealand, I am fluent in both English and Mandarin, allowing me to communicate effectively with students from diverse backgrounds. I graduated from high school in New Zealand, completing the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) with excellent results, including a score of 7 in Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (Higher Level), which is often considered one of the most difficult subjects in the IBDP. Having studied in three countries and experienced different education systems, I appreciate that every student learns differently and strive to adapt my teaching style to suit each individual's needs.

Current Education

I am currently a second-year undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne, majoring in Business Analytics and Management. My studies have strengthened my analytical and problem-solving skills through data analysis, statistics, and quantitative reasoning, while also developing my communication and critical thinking abilities. These skills help me explain mathematical concepts and adapt my teaching to suit each student's learning style.

Tutoring Experience

I previously worked as a Holiday Program Supervisor for a coding program, where I collaborated with fellow supervisors to ensure the class ran smoothly and provided support to students experiencing technical difficulties or struggling with challenging programming concepts. This role strengthened my ability to explain complex ideas in a clear and patient manner while adapting my approach to suit students' various learning levels. In addition, I participated in my high school's peer tutoring program, where senior students tutored middle school students in subjects they required additional support with, particularly mathematics. Through this experience, I developed effective communication skills, learned how to adapt my explanations to individual learning styles, and understood the importance of building students' confidence alongside their academic ability.
