What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I enjoyed most was working through a maths question one-on-one with a student and watching the moment it finally clicked, that visible relief on their face when confusion turned into understanding. I tutored Year 8 students in a selective entry exam program (numerical reasoning and maths) after doing well in those same exams myself the year before. It mattered a lot to me that students left with no doubts, and I was happy to stay back after sessions if it meant getting a student fully across a concept rather than leaving them half-understanding it.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

One of my strengths is patience, I was willing to spend extra time with a student, even outside regular hours, until a concept genuinely made sense to them rather than just moving on. I also learned to read when a student was quietly struggling, especially in group settings, and adjust my approach, for example checking in individually with shyer students who wouldn't ask questions in front of others.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make sure every student feels able to ask for help, not just the confident ones. Through my own tutoring I noticed that some students with real potential held back in group settings because they were shy or unsure how to phrase what they didn't understand, and without someone actively checking in, that gap could go unnoticed. A good tutor creates a space where no question feels silly, and actively looks for the quiet signs that a student is stuck rather than waiting for them to speak up.
