What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing a student gain confidence in something they once believed they couldn't do. I know first-hand how life-changing a great tutor can be. Throughout Years 6 to 10, I struggled with mathematics until I had a teacher who completely changed the way I thought about learning. She encouraged us to understand why concepts worked rather than simply memorising steps, and that transformed both my confidence and my results. That experience inspired me to teach in the same way, helping students truly understand concepts and enjoy learning.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I believe my greatest strengths are communication, patience and the ability to explain complex ideas in a simple and engaging way. I enjoy adapting my explanations to suit each student's learning style and encouraging them to ask questions rather than simply memorising answers. My experience presenting to university classes, mentoring classmates and being invited by tutors to teach previous coursework has strengthened my confidence in explaining ideas clearly while creating a supportive learning environment.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence. Once students begin to believe they are capable, their willingness to learn and solve problems improves naturally. A tutor should create a safe environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and thinking critically. Rather than simply teaching students how to answer a question, I believe tutors should help them understand why an answer works, giving them the confidence and skills to solve similar problems independently in the future.
