What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing students understand something better, especially when they were struggling with it at first. I really like that moment when something finally clicks for them, and they start feeling more confident. I also enjoy getting to know different students and finding different ways to explain things depending on how they learn best. It's really rewarding to see them improve and become more comfortable with the subject.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I think my strengths as a tutor are being patient and being able to break down complex concepts into simpler terms that are easier to understand. I understand that everyone learns differently, so I'm happy to explain things in different ways or go through something multiple times until it makes sense. I'm also quite approachable and encouraging, so I try to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions without being afraid of getting something wrong.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is make difficult concepts feel easier and less overwhelming for a student. It's also really important to encourage them and remind them that they are capable of understanding the material, especially when they are feeling stuck or frustrated. I think a good tutor should create a comfortable space where students feel okay asking questions and making mistakes. Rather than just giving them the answers, I also think tutors should help students understand how to work through problems themselves, so they can build their confidence.

I am currently a second-year PhD student at UWA. My field spans around computational biology, agricultural science and breeding, and genomics!

Academic Demonstrator and Tutor at UWA

I am currently in charge of demonstrating university students in R programming around 150 students and have demonstrated 3 units across my time in university. I have also taught university students 1-on-1, especially with the UWA School of Indigenous Studies (ITAS) program. I love teaching!

Kids Volunteer at Nations Church
