What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I enjoy most about tutoring is helping a student go from feeling stuck on a question to genuinely understanding how to solve it. I particularly enjoy teaching Maths from Years 5-12, with VCE General Maths being an area I feel especially confident in. I like working through questions step by step, identifying the important information and showing students how to recognise more challenging or separator questions. I also enjoy making lessons engaging and approachable rather than simply giving students the answer. Seeing someone become more confident is the most rewarding part.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

One of my biggest strengths is being able to break a question down clearly rather than just showing the final answer. I like to go through questions almost word by word, explaining what the question is actually asking, what information is important and how to choose the right approach. I have regularly helped classmates with Maths by working through difficult questions with them, identifying key questions to focus on and explaining challenging concepts in different ways. If someone was stuck, I was also happy to jump on a Zoom call or record myself explaining the solution.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is teach a student how to think through a problem, rather than simply helping them arrive at an answer. A good tutor should build the student’s confidence, identify where they are struggling and explain concepts in a way that makes sense to them personally. In Maths, I think it is particularly important to teach students how to interpret questions, identify key information and recognise what method they need to use. A tutor should make learning engaging and create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and I feel thats me
