What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

There is a particular moment in tutoring that I love: the moment a student's expression changes because something finally clicks. I enjoy taking something that initially feels confusing or overwhelming and finding a way to make it feel manageable. I also love getting to know how each student thinks and discovering what approach works for them. Seeing their confidence grow — especially when they begin tackling something independently that they once thought they couldn't do — is incredibly rewarding. For me, the best part of tutoring is not just helping a student get the right answer, but helping them realise they are capable of finding it themselves.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

A good tutor doesn't just explain things well — they notice when the student needs to hear it differently. I think this is one of my greatest strengths as a tutor. I am patient, approachable and enjoy finding different ways to explain a concept until it genuinely makes sense. My experience in workshop facilitation and youth coaching has taught me to listen carefully, adapt my communication style and encourage people without making them feel pressured. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, while also helping them develop the confidence and skills to eventually tackle challenges independently.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

Sometimes the biggest barrier to learning isn't the content itself — it's believing you can learn it. The most important thing I can do for a student is help them build confidence in their own ability to learn. I would do this by listening first and understanding where they are struggling, explaining concepts clearly and patiently, and finding different ways to approach something when it doesn't initially click. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and saying, “I don't understand,” without feeling judged. I also want to help students become increasingly independent. Rather than simply giving them answers, I would guide them through problems, develop their study and organisational skills, and help them recognise the progress they are making. I would adapt my approach to each student's needs, interests and learning style while keeping lessons engaging and purposeful. Ultimately, I want a student to leave a lesson with more than a completed worksheet or a better understanding of one topic. I want them to leave thinking, “I can do this.”
